AC "smaller" psych eval

Post by Mmo »

lads

like so many of you, i had an interview over 6 months ago with AC, and got the PFO for 6 months. surprisingly, they wish me to retake the smaller psych exam really soon. this is not the MMPI 2, but the one on the sliding scale. so:

what is the name of this exam, and where can i go online to get more info on it?
some people say this is just a formality, and fill it out exactly the same. what do you all think?

wish me luck.

I honestly think people end up screwing themselves by trying to answer these exams the way they think someone else wants them answered. They are a psych exam, just answer as quickly and honestly as you can. Unless you harbour perverse character traits, like maybe you always wanted to be a politician, you should do fine.

I know two guys who got called back to redo their psych exams for exactly that reason: trying to answer based on what they thought AC wanted to hear....one didn't get called (but he's Jazz) and the other is online as of 6 mos ago.

Mmo, as an aside, how long did it take for you to get your PFO? Just wondering if there is a difference in response time from HR based on if you tank the interview or if it is due to failing the psych or cog tests. Sorry if this is a touchy subject....

Good luck...

Ironic.. I got a call today from Jennifer saying that "the review board wanted me to re do 3 out of 4 of the tests again".. (the cog, and the 2 shorter pshych tests)... Does this mean I did o.k. on my interview but messed up my psych and cog tests? I don't recall anything special about the psych tests, but I recall having some troubles with the cog test (the light pen was acting up on me)... Does this "recall" thing seem to be happening to a lot of guys/gals? I received my "thanks for coming out, try again in 6 months" letter in Sept, after interviewing in June.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

So I guess if your letter said nothing about reapplying after 6 months you really screwed the whole thing up?

How do you guys prepare for the psych and cog test. Any sample questions out there. I'm not planning for an AC interview (still a 200 hr wonder) I'm just bored.

How do you guys prepare for the psych and cog test?

Well, personally I worked as a florist for 2 months and no I'd rather not be one. Also I teased my dog and cats for a few months to see if I enjoy it or not and therefore was able to answer truthfully "I do tease small animals"

Just teasing (damn I'm obsessed) you can't prepare. Just answer honestly.

AC "smaller" psych eval

Post by Mmo »

i did my interview july 5th last year, and it took a long time for them to get back to me, about 9 weeks and this was only after i emailed cathy vining to respectfully inquire. the PFO said reapply in 6 months, which i believe means you passed the interview.

Why do you believe that "it means you passed the interview?" I wonder if all the people who are being called back are just doing the psych/cog tests? I really don't know necessarily how anyone can do any better on a cog test, and certainly, how can you do any better on a psych test? (what, are you supposed to "study" for it???

How many people have been in this position? How have people been doing? I would like to think that at least it won't take as long to "decide" this time around?

with most airlines, an unfavourable interview results in a permanent PFO. the larger of AC's psych evals is the ancient MMPI 2, which was designed in the 60's to detect psychosis. it is still widely used by airlines and police departments etc as a screening tool. generally no one is called back to repeat that one, but the smaller of the tests involves answers on a sliding scale. some candidates are unclassifiable, so with other factors being favourable they are asked to repeat it.

if asked to redo the cog test, a second attempt would definately give better results. the orignal attempt may have suffered due to hardware problems, fatigue or simply not quite fast or accurate enough versus the other candidates at that time.
