JC was a bit mistaken. It was over a period of 7 years, with the longest stint being 3.5 yrs. Definately a love-hate relationship.
edited to add: I have no idea of little miss muffett or the story mentioned above. Everyone is so curious......but honestly people, there have been billions of "stories" from the Maldives. Lets at least hear about a juicy one!

Ya im flying wheel planes now and was thinking of trying to go to male in the slower season.... mostly jsut to see what float flying is all about,... and i really dont wanna start float flying at a mom+pop company in northern Ont, becuause it would involve flying in the summer which means quitting my present job which would be quite silly. My present jobs is too good to get the old "grass is greener syndrome".
Anyways i have no float experience and was wondering about the pay details for such a person.. it looks like $750us/ month... for 6 days/ week 12- 14hr days... Hmmm.. Would be better to go on a long vacation and fly in YZF for the rest of the winter if thats the case.
Correct me if im wrong and/or dissillusional.

Don't know about MAT ! TMA is always looking for captains, or people with previous Twin Otter on float experience that could get in the left seat after a few months there. Since this involves them training you and going through the line endoc process which is 150 hours, if they know you're just going there for the high season they might not be interested. Of late they have hired experienced copilots with type on float time for the busy season but that might not always be the case, depending on how many Maldivian copilots they have for the season.
CLGuy said it right, how much you enjoy it definitely depends on whether you have to go there or whether you choose to go there. For me it was both and I really enjoyed being there. I would go back someday but that again is because I chose to leave and didn't HAVE to leave !
I am sure that the people that didn't enjoy it there had nothing better to do on their days off than nurse a hangover. Those that found something to do like dive, snorkel or sail probably went home with better memories.
Go. Enjoy it, and if you don't you can always bitch on avcanada !

Hey myself and 4 others just got hired by Borek and now are living in Male flying for MAT. I had 410TT, 100Float when I got hired. The appartments here are amazing! At least the building that I am living in is amazing! Pretty much everything is brand new and nice. The only bad thing its a 20min walk to the Dhoni in the morning! The pay isn't great but you don't spend a whole lot and most likely will not touch your canadian base pay. The people here are awsome. Pretty much its a good life, if you don't mind living in a third world country and flying a Twin Otter to the most beautiful locations in Paradise. That is if your paradise is white beaches, clear blue water and +30 degree heat everyday! If you don't like traveling or leaving home then this isn't the place for you. However, you want adventure and make new friends and get paid to travel to the otherside of the world! Than this is the place for you!
