twotter, I don't think AMEs are willing to pay out of pocket for courses, especially when you consider the wages currently offered. Do you know of an operator that will not pay for training on types such as this? AMEs aren't paid well enough to shell out a few grand for training, at least where I am from. I think Phyl is looking for guys to spread the word to their employers to have them put on course,. Perhaps I am a little biased since I know Phyl personally, but I also know he is looking for support from operators since that provides the potential for repeat business, one or two guys dropping a cheque for training provides no future prospects, keep in mind this is a young company that is working it's way into the market. I have done 2 courses through this company and have nothing but positiives to say about them, I know Phyl because he was an instructor on one of my courses. If an AME decides to spend his own money on the course, great, and also good news for Phyl for that course only based on money earned. It provides no future prospect for employment in my opinion, but it is also not what Phyl is seeking, any company that provides instruction thrives on repeat business, not one or two guys trying to buy their way into employment. I know for a fact Phyl prefers arrangements with operators and he remains in contact with companies he has worked with. I am all for a Canadian company training Canadian AMEs. I can provide reference to anyone considering one of Flightline's courses, my employer did extensive research before tasking them with training, and we keep returning to them or our training requirements.

I would hope that they do well running the courses, I do hope though that people taking the course will be sent by their employers. I've run into a number of guys through the years who bought themselves jobs by taking an endorsement course at their own expense. To me, this is no different than someone paying for a Navjo PPC to get a job. I hope that it never becomes the norm.

IMHO..

I have posted the courses on the forum to allow Contractors and other AME's the opportunity to take a course by themselves if they so wish. It is not the norm that individuals pay for thier own training , but if you are trying to get the job it could be to their advantage to have the endorsement.

When we conduct a course it is usually booked by an operator but we do reserve a couple of seats on the course for individuals to attend. One thing we have also done is to provide the training to guys on unemployment insurance. UI will pay for the training if the individual qualifies. We also help the individual with the process.

We are trying to make training more accessable, affordable and informative.

Giving the AME the advantage is what we are about.

As far as AME's paying for their own endorsement or re-current.
IMHO The demographics of the AME will encourage this type of "paying for your own course" .
As the older guys realise, while most of their peers have left the insustry (due to the lean times) their experiance is worth more now than any time in their carreer.
So why work for a company for wages when you can (ready for this) CONSULT - Set yourself up as a company identify a type of aircraft or market your are familiaer with - pay for your currency ( the subject we are adressng) and make the industry pay the dues you are rightfully owed.
Phyl you are on to something here offering a afforadable approved course for us "moss backs" to get set-up.

This is where it differs from a pilot paying for a PPL. This course is not to get a job, as the pilots do, this is to create a company to get compensation for what we are worth.

Well said Pita. There are two paths in aircraft maintenance. You can treat it as employment or you can treat it like a business in the same fashion as Pita outlined.
