American Airlines pilots ask for 30.5 pct pay hike

Post by sanjet »

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The union representing pilots at American Airlines, the world's largest carrier, said on Thursday it has asked the company to boost pilot pay by 30.5 percent next year, followed by annual 5 percent raises.

Not really unreasonable. I'm sure it's in line with the raises given to the management.

That should put them in line with Southwest and Jetblue.

The union, whose members have given up $1.8 billion a year through pay cuts and work rule changes, complains that airline managers' compensation has recovered faster than workers' since the 2003 restructuring.
Good on 'em. Ask for the stars and settle on something in the stratosphere. This all sounds awfully familiar to a Canadian carrier who is approaching renegotiations in 2009 so I hope a precedence can be set in pilots favour and the pie is shared a little more evenly.

Hopefully AC pilots dont get the old pattern bargaining bs. I know for us at Candian Pacific the company says they wont budge off 3% a yr because that is what everyone else negotiated. The train crews plus track maintenance have both been without a contract since the end of the yr and are seeking a fair increase - 4-5% yr after a 700 million $ profit.

Meanwhile all the higher ups made off like bandits. Not saying the suits dont deserve good money just dont claim to me there isnt money to go around when your lining your own pockets.

Didnt the flt attendant get something like 1.5-2% a yr at AC???
