Why did the RJ gear collapse?
I see that a Jazz RJ had it's main gear collapse after landing in YYZ...why or how did this happen any news on this Jazzers?
Well first the gear collapsed, then it scrunched up into the wing, at the same time, the airplane came down, dragging its flaps on the ground.....
Seriously, Im sure we'll know soon enough, but mechanical failures do happen. When I hear what was the cause, I'll post it on here.

I've personally witnessed quite a few...both as DH'ing pax and operating. And no...they weren't mine.
There is one Capt in particular that likes to do that on every landing and I make sure I'm prepared for a collapsed gear scenario whenever I fly with him...which was quite often. I was always scared to death whenever it was his turn and it was a YQT leg or something. I tried talking to him about it but he just brushes it off saying the gear can handle them. Hope he's paying attention.

Scope. Not just a mouthwash.
I would guess the plane is a total write off. I saw some pictures of the airplane. The left flap is completly destroyed, and the right gear is on top of the wing. There is a close up of what I think is a spar, and it's broken.
Since I value my job, I won't post the pictures on a public forum. Sorry.
I feel really bad for the skipper. I have flown with him and he's a first rate guy. It couldn't have happened to a less deserving individual.

How does the company deal with the crew if an accident like this is not a pilot error? What about if it is a pilot error?
"Yeah. There is a problem. You...because you're dangerous. You're dangerous and foolish - and that makes you dangerous! Now, let's cut the...crap. We've got a plane to fly. Let's try to be on time, okay?"

Having flown the RJ, and yes had a few landings im not so proud of, I can't imagine that a single landing did what was described, that plane has some tough gear. Metal wear, and years of use, sure, but not one landing. If it was infact a bad landing, damn, thats a bad one.
Also not a good way to introduce no time pilots flying that machine if someone with experience can smack it on that bad....again, if it was a bad landing, I have my doubts.

I can't see how it could have been a hard landing, they were going slow on D3 when it collapsed. I talked to a maintenance guy the other day and he says there is an AD out for the gear about some brackets and it may have been them letting go.
I was supposed to take that plane to YQT right after, if it had to happen anywhere certainly glad it happened in YYZ, weould have been a different story if it happenend up there.
Well glad everyone is OK.

It was a hard landing and they rode the flap fairings and partially destroyed (impaled in wings) gear onto the taxiway and went no further.
Kingair Guy, would your new ride take a +600,000lbs landing???? This RJ gear to over 200,000lbs of force

If this was a hard landing and I'll tell you I dont know jack abou the RJ but I woulda thought that if it was that hard it would have pulled some rivits and they could have been leaking fuel.
I was a manager at a company that had a VERY hard landing on a biz jet and when they were taxiing off the runway they were leaving a trail of fuel, pulled a pile of wing skin seams apart.
Just some extra fuel to the speculation fire.
Cheers,
ETTW
