End of the Argentinean spray season

Post by nacho »

Well, back in Canada now after 4 months down there. What is with this snow thing on the Easter weekend?
Sprayed 58.000 hectares and it became the best season I've ever had in both countries. I am in the works to post some short videos and photos for the guys in this racket who are curious.
Hope you all had a good winter over here and for what I read on some posts, things are looking up for the fellow pilots,
Cheers!!

Nacho,
That sound like an awsome season. What kind of spraying lets you average 1200 acres every day for 120 days staight. You should be able to have a good rest before the season starts here, colder than shit in MB still.
Cheers

Well, the swath widths here are insane and we also work at as low as 2 lts/hectare, so a 500 gallon Thrush can go and do 2500 acres in one load.
That is insecticide and we use diesel as the carrier, which is supplied by the customer... it doesn't get any better than this. the only complain is the % , we get 14%, but if you look at it different as in how many jours took you to get it done then evens out.
The high gallon work on fungicides is 20lts/hectare max.
Getting caught up with sleep now!! Ther's talk of Bertha's out there, have you heard anything ?

There is a forcast for bertha but only time will tell. There is a blizzard out my window right now so this means that seeding will likely be delayed from last year. A delayed seeding gives the bugs more time in August to develope before the swathers go out so heres a hoping.

I have always been interested in spraying, just wondering if it is possible to get work as a low time guy doing this sort of thing(1700hrs)

Any info would be great.

Thanks GS

The only way you can get in these days is if you take one of the Ag courses aproved by the insurance company. See the CAAA for details.
I am only guessing on this one but I suspect a bunch of guys have moved away onto other things. It is difficult to make a living on such a short season, not to mention if you happen to have a bad one.
