Well, I was there for my training at Flight safety for 5 days. The only thing I could do was studying between sim and ground course. No time to visit the city, too busy...

Eat a 32oz porterhouse..

The Riverfest is fun if it is on when you are there.

Drive to Hutchinson to the space museum. Small but worth the effort.

There used to be a "granny grab" there years ago. I did not take part (too young)....I bet it would have been right up Cat Drivers alley though.

Eat another 32oz porterhouse..

Oh, great little airfield to spend a Saturday kicking tires at- Maize Field

The space Museum in Hutchinson (I'm not really interested in space travel and I really enjoyed this)

The aviation Museum @ the north end of the McConnell AFB was neat.

The downtown area looked cool, but we drove through on a Sunday during winter, not much going on.

You might get a tour at the Bombardier/Learjet plant....

If you are there for a type rating you have no time for touring!

If its for recurrent, you don't have time for touring!

You can fly a radial farther than you can ship a Merlin.

Managed to get a tour of the Cessna production lines, both Caravan and Citation, on my trip there. Didn't have much time for anything else; just too busy.

If you're staying at the airport Hilton, they have an Aviator's lounge with snacks and drinks available 24 hours on the honor system. And free breakfast hosted by Wanda in the mornings, and happy hour with fellow aviators on Tuesdays upstairs (if I remember correctly).

I also recommend the short trip to Hutchinson for the museum visit. One of the most interesting air and space museums I've ever visited. It's near an Amish community so quite a contrast. There's a good chance you'll see a horse drawn carriage on the highway.

I had a conversation on chat one night about this...are chaps not, by definition, ALL assless????

If they weren't assless, they'd be pants.

(Doesn't this make those of you who have not yet braved the world that is avchat, wonder what ELSE you've been missing???)
