ATPL Licensing wait times
Anyone out there had any recent experience with submitting their ATPL application and the associated wait time. I hear it is 6 weeks in YVR right now... another example of GREAT government service... who do they think they are - the Passport office???

gonfishin, do you need it to work?
Because if you need it to work you could lose a lot of money.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

gonfishin, you have my sympathy, it is truly retarded if a guy or girl has to lose even one hour of pay because you do not have the piece of paper approved for a fu.kin license that you have met the requirements.
Have you enquired as to what the fine would be for flying without the f.ckin paper?
Man the more I read about this crap the happier I am I no longer have to deal with such a retarded system...

Re: ATPL Licensing wait times
LOL... no, actually, there is quite a bit more involved than getting a passport, I would guess.gonefishin' wrote:Anyone out there had any recent experience with submitting their ATPL application and the associated wait time. As far as wait times are concerned, a great deal has to do with your documentation. If it is rather sub-standard, it will take a great deal MORE time since it will require a lot of "additional information" inquiries.
All licencing is done on a "first come, first served basis"... with some operational exceptions. These may vary by region.
I would suggest that if their is an operational requirement for the ATPL to be processed, your Chief Pilot give a call to the Regional Manager for Certification. It is quite likely they will give a priority to this request, should it have merit.
In the Pacific Region, this would be:
Name: Dave Dixon
Phone: (604) 666-5573
Position: Superintendent., Safety Oversight Certification
Good luck!

My ATPL processing was done in about an hour. Mind you, that was quite a while ago. Plenty has changed since then, and I'm not sure for the better.
It was pretty easy, actually. Back then, you needed every flight signed off by the aircraft owner, CFI or CP, so I did a LOT of legwork before hand, getting my logbooks signed off.
I showed up, and was handed a form to fill out. I did, and handed my logbooks over (made me a bit queasy - decades ago, the Toronto office lost my logbook for around 6 months while my commercial licence was processed). Then I sat down and waited.
Then it got funny. The TC person called me over and told me that I should have never been issued a night rating - something about never flying under the hood at night. And, I should have never been issued a commercial licence - I didn't have enough hood time. And, how I wasn't supposed to ever log cross-country IFR time at night simultaneously.
The lecture went on for a few minutes, but then I was told I had enough hours for the ATPL, my paperwork was in order, and I got the hell out of there.

I second YHM. Mine took about 2.5 hours. Sat there while they went through the logbooks. Even needed a fax from a former employer. Phoned them, fax arrived, ATPL in my hand. YHM is the best TC office I have ever dealt with. I wish more government offices, not just TC, could be as courteous and efficient as YHM is.
It's better to break ground and head into the wind than to break wind and head into the ground.
No wonder TCs out to get you, you were flying for years under a licence you weren't qualified to holdHedley wrote:Then it got funny. So does this mean we can't fly IFR at night unless we stay in the circuit?Hedley wrote:I wasn't supposed to ever log cross-country IFR time at night simultaneously..
Take my love
Take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care
I'm still free
You cannot take the sky from me

Have to agree %100
The ladies at that office are top notch. I wrote every test there, but one. Went somewhere else when it was closer and I'll never go to another office as long as I can help it. Got everything processed there as well.... efficient, polite and most of all fast and friendly.

Sometimes I think it's a shame when I get feelin' better when I'm feelin no pain.
