Instructor Rating or MIFR?
I have a couple freinds that dont know which direction to go in. Both have a commercial and 1 has a multi rating. They are both considering getting an instructor rating or getting a multi IFR rating. With the way the industry is right now, what would be the better option?
With roughly 300 hours total and 90 hours multi is it a better option to get the instrument rating and try and find a job or the instructor rating and build PIC time first?
With 200 hours total and 0 multi, which would be the better route?
Money is an issue for both.
With the way things are changing Im not sure what to tell them.

I am/was in the same dilemma. After thinking about it for a loooong time I am finishing my group 1. I dont think I would be in instructing for totally the right reasons. IFR has always been something curious to me so I am doing that. I have some float time so atleast thats two options. To each his own I guess...I think you got to do what ultimately makes you happy!

Get a loan and do both, get on with a flight school start with VFR and then move to multi-ifr department. Short term pain for long term gain (money wise) then again make sure they wanna be instructors not just "build pic time" its been discussed before but ask your friends to see if they can sit in on some lessons for both and see which they'd perfer. Every instructor i've talked to has said the same thing "it wasnt my first choice but I really enjoy it now" Anyone one who instructs simply to build time is usually the dink instructor who no one wants to fly with.
