When is too late to start?
I asked on PPRUNE but didn't get much of an answer so I'll ask here.
When is, in your opinion, too late to start flying? Basically, I want to go to university in Italy, and it will only be two years, plus 1 year of college here in BC leaves me at 21-22 (I'm 18 now) when I can start flying. Due to the ridiculous flying costs in Europe, plus scratching every penny to live in Rome, I don't see me flying before then. Would it really be too late by the time I get back, be 21ish, to start flying?
Thanks
Matthew

I have no idea, most ppl that i know that started their training out of highschool were anywhere from 22-25 before they got their first jobs..... to me its all about priorities.flying came first on my list so i did it right out of highschool and get paid to travel. basically can you stand to be 25 or 26 before you get your first job in a seat?
thats my 2 cents....... but to each his own

I wouldnt say its too old to start. Why Rome? Italy is a beautiful country I absolutly love it, as a matter of fact I use to live there when I was younger. Assuming when you come back you could get your training done in a timely fashion and be ready to go I dont see the problem. Just dont come back and say oh well ya next day/week/year ill go to the local FTU and check in on it. I dont think age really limits you. as long as you know you can get it done. Btw apparently the job opportunites in Europe exceed all else so if you can bite the bullet and get the JAA you could catch up even if your 21-22.
Just my thoughts..

Why do you want to come to Italy? I live in Italy and don't have much good to say about it.
From what I've heard about how universities work here (I went to college in London) I would strongly suggest you go some place else. Students are pretty much left to their fate, their is no system of personal/academic tutors guiding and helping you in your studies, classrooms are so full you often have to stand to follow a lesson, exams are moved or cancelled with no warning because the professor decided to take a long weekend... I'm sure you get the gist of what I'm trying to say. It is obviously no surprise that universities in Italy are run this way since pretty much everything works this way.
I urge you to reconsider you destination

I posted a similar question a few months ago and every response pretty much said one thing: "It's NEVER too late".
I'm just starting my training now and I'm 27. I know it's a tired saying, but "age IS just a number" if you are willing to make the sacrifices and have a clear goal in mind it doesn't matter how old you are. I went a route of getting my university degree and working an office job in the Caribbean for a few years, now I hope to get my first flying job before I'm 30. At 21-22 you're laughing.

You kidding right!!!
I wish i was a few years younger.
You are a great age to start man.Ive got 17 hours and im 27.
For me its simple:
I know that in ten years ill still be stuck at the same JOB.
But in 10 years ill be flying for some big company, which leaves me with 23 years of flying.
Go for it man!!!!
