Non Pressurized
Please review passenger comfort when telling non pressurized aircraft to expedite the decent. I'm the one who has to explaine to the passengers why ther're holding their ears in pain
Waaaah! Waaaah!
Passenger comfort isn't part of our brief. Tell the controller you can't expedite descent next time - give the reason why (hurt your ears too wouldn't it?).
You can refuse a clearance if you feel it compromises the safety of your aircraft but of course you knew that....right???

Passenger comfort is your job not the controllers.
If you feel you can't or do not want to descend with an expedite, tell the controller, just don't be surprised if you get a 360 turn instead, and/or vectored all over hells creation.
Controllers primary job is to keep your airplane from hitting that other airplane, not worrying about passengers minor ear aches.

Ok Mr Tofu,
Could you kindly tell us the type you fly, where you fly and just what situations you are being asked to "expedite your descent" without the interesting attempt in your last post to try and insult..............assuming you actually wish to enter into some form of intelligent conversation.
I've just had a quick look at some of your previous posts. I'm guessing you're a PA31 driver for Keestone or Skynorth out of Winnipeg. That's gotta be close. I'll certainly enter into some dialogue regarding the topic.

I'll wade in here - since the Buffalo is not pressurized.
When we carry PAX we limit our VSI to 1200'/min max - this provides for a comfortable ride and an acceptable descent rate that won't piss of ATS.
When they ask you to expedite, they aren't asking for 6000'/min down - just don't spend forever pulling off the power or fiddling with the AP/FDR. Push the red button on your yoke, pull the power and let the nose naturally drop.

Actually Jerricho, he's a 40-something welfare case that lives with his mom at the trailer park and has a scanner set up to listen in on Winnipeg Approach. He'obviously dropped out of school when he was no more than 14, judging by his spelling and lack of comprehension and has picked up phrases like "expedite" from countless hours spent with his scanner and his copy of Flying magazine.Jerricho wrote:Ok Mr Tofu,

The only thing he likes better than coming on AvCanada and stirring up shit is prancing around in his collection of Olsen Twins designer undergarments. He has his mom alter them to fit him by telling her they're for his fat girlfriend who lives next door and is actually his sister, who his mom forgot she gave birth to her as she was "enjoying her medicine that year"
Tofo and Ezmerelda (the sister) have often talked about having sex, but tofo just can't bear the thought that he'll bee seen by his sister in his Olsen Twins designer undergarments, also he doesn't get aroused by women, it seems that only a retired librarian named Howard and a select few of Winnipeg's male escort scene are able to bring tofo to Paradise City.
Don't let his non-sensical ramblings spoil your day, after all, while you're out there copying clearances, flying your sectors and getting your passengers home, tofo will still be in his mom's spare room, picking his nose and "admiring" the latest issue of Olsen Twins magazine, the one with the BIG PRINT and small words.

As Maverick would say "Yo, gonna need a beer to put out those flames"
Having a standard that pilots lose their licence after making a mistake despite doing no harm to aircraft or passengers means soon you needn't worry about a pilot surplus or pilots offering to fly for free. Where do you get your experience from?
When I'm feeling 'gassy'
(which is all the time) and the aircraft smells like a petting zoo (ask Desksgo) I blame it on fictitious 'sulphur' plants along the way.
Perhaps Tofo can adopt some fabrication of the truth when the inside of his aircraft looks like a slaughter house because everyone is bleeding from their ears after every flight.
Seriously dude, plan ahead. Anything more than -500 FPM pretty much makes my passengers pass out from the ..."Sulphur Plants" enroute.
Just doin' my part

thats the point. step down decents with the requests to expedite.Seriously dude, plan ahead. Anything more than -500 FPM pretty much makes my passengers pass out from the ..."Sulphur Plants" enroute.
the only other option is staying out of terminal (cleaning up the puke from the turbulance)

I've had my moments with tofo....but you guys are just mean! But, I've always thought the Olsen twins were HOT, in a refugee, haven't had a meal in six months kind of way.
Jerricho...tofo started a thread called "Thanks".....he was pretty much on your side with that thread.

Yeah, I know, I saw the Wx thread and passed it on to the controllers who were working. I'm just trying to get a rise out of him so we can seriously discuss the topic.
IF he's a Ho driver or alike and is finding it's a regular thing that he's asked to expedite then expedite some more by a certain unit/controller, then perhaps that should be looked at. I've heard it done: Controller issues "Expedite descent" to a small lighty.......... 30 seconds later controller comes out with "I need you to pick up the rate of descent..........", when it's obvious the guy is doing his best. How about stop giving the poor driver shit and coming up with a better plan brainiac?

refusing an expedite clearence on the basis of passenger comfort for safety reasons doesen't make sense to me. The only time I'll refuse that clearance is if I know someone is extremly stuffed up and I'll potentially do damage to their hearing.
I do what I can to help the efficiant flow of traffic where ever I am.
What are others thoughts on the refusal of that clearance?

You still are being very cagey regarding the type you fly
Try this one on for size:
Controller "Maintain 4000, expedite through 6000"
You "Maximum rate I can give you down is XXX fpm". You know your aircraft. You know what is comfortable for your passengers without blasting eardrums and wearing somebody else's breakfast.
Tell them. Let them know. Our radars allow us to display a vertical rate of climb/descent. Now way is it a refusal of a clx. If that's the best you can do, then that's it. If a controller then gives you crap about it and asks you for more, then perhaps they need to re-assess their chosen career. Same when being sequenced. If you're a slow single or twin, I'll often ask "What's the fastest you can give me till beacon/threshold". Driver tells me 'XXX kts", following is sequenced accordingly (note I use the word "fastest" not "best". There certainly is a difference).
Still not going to share where you're experiencing this?

No.
I don't think I'll be Identifying myself or my employer today.
Sure can certainly respect the anonymity angle, and so be it then. But, don't come on here bitching about what may well have been a one off situation if you're not prepared to talk about it. What you have posted here is exactly the same as a controller who had 1 pilot miss a clearance and start sprouting "Hey, ALL of you pilots out there are effin deaf and please review your ability to use a radio"..............
So, your thoughts on next time you're asked to expedite your descent?

No, but your reluctance to extrapolate certainly makes it sound like a one off pissy-rant.
You not a fan of telling ATC what your "expedited rate of descent" will be? Come on, it's not that hard. I'm just trying to help, but christ, it's like pulling teeth. Maybe you don't want to be helped or understand the concept of "working together".
