Hey Rowdy,
I've already told everybody you get your name from what happens after a few drinks so don't expect too many replies!!!
Glad to hear you are doing good up there.. If I wasn't so busy playing golf in the sun down here on my days off I'd probably come up there and join you for a nice cold one..
Have fun!!

go buy a telescopic fishing rod(so you can carry it in your suitcase) and hike out to the lake that the power company uses for cooling. It's right beside the highway as you come into downtown from the airport.
There's been some monster pike caught in that lake over the years. I got my master angler in there myself.
Tip: They're lazy pike in there(until you hook them) so you have to drop it right in front of them. I used a cisco on a gorge hook and cast it out with no weights on it. Just let it sink slowly, and BAM. it's common to haul in 15 pounders, but I landed a 25 lb'er and a 34 lb was caught in there too.

Drinking outside the box.

There's a neat museum on the way to town - you can sit there in the summer and watch the muskeg burn. You can sleep in the Bristol popsicle too.
The guy that owns the Yellowknife Hotel was a gooper/rampie/sold retardent once - his name is Jack - go hit him up for a beer.
Being the seat of government in the NWT, there are 'plenty' of women up there.
Once upon a time we started a fight in the Strange Range as a diversion so that one of our number could swipe a flag...
Good advice for the fishing rod, but don't bother with slough sharks, get out in the lake and get a trout.
Rent or borrow a sailboat and go for a bob on the big lake.
Take a tour of the mine.
Did I mention there are tons of women up there?

"What's it doing now?"
"Fly low and slow and throttle back in the turns."

No Rowdy, that was more than a little uncalled for, that was the post of an *sshole. If ever you need a reference or a baseline, Tofo has provided it.
To put things in perspective, I know a guy who thundered in in a 172 giving a guy a mountain check when he was first starting out as an instructor - last I heard he was C.P. of Ansett before they folded - no idea where he is now.
Call it a learning experience.
Your only impediment to a long and illustrious career is if you allow pond scum like Tofo to upset you.

The Black Knight has decent wings on Wednesday nights, there's a Burger night at the Monkey Tree on Thursdays as well. The Range and Dirty Bird are definitely an experience. Donald's post pretty much sums up the circuit, you could throw in Harley's if ya wish to see a naked lady or two, as it's conveniently on the way from the Knight to the Range. If you're going to the Tree, it can be a long-assed wait for beers, I think it was pushing on 15-20 minutes last night
. Aside from bars, there's a beach up at Fred Henne park by the airport, and Prelude Lake is a nice spot for a hike, I'm told. Cameron Falls is supposedly also a good spot. If you get the chance the Vietnamese Noodle house has some good grub. There's a brunch at The Explorer on Sundays that's pretty pricey, but definitely worth it. I hear that Bullock's has the best Fish 'n Chips going, but I haven't yet been to have any 1st hand knowledge.

Rowdy - if the plane God's are kind - I will be bringing a CC-115 up to YZF enroute to YEU.
We should be overnighting at Chateau Nova on the night of the 11th and back through there on the 16th.
If you get this message on the 11th and saw a yellow Buff on the ramp - swing by the Nova and ask for Port - just call yourself Rowdy and I might be able to figure out who is calling.

Wish I could be all the way back south to the knife... left it not even a week ago; would die to just wander through a wallmart or canadian tire...
also have a vague memory of a tim hortons...
Man I use to love this thing, but the North is getting to me.
Always amazed how many pretty girls are around in YZF. Just three more weeks and you'll recognize me with my back shaped like a deHavilland seat and my three dollar wallmart watch....
