What is all the big deal? Besides the wings, it doesn't look all that special.

The wings don't even move.... How's it supposed to come off the ground???Golden Flyer wrote:What is all the big deal? Besides the wings, it doesn't look all that special.
Not bad looking, for an airplane. But being American, the doors probably clunk when you close them...

See post above...: "It's a composite tube with some wings on it."Golden Flyer wrote:What is all the big deal? Besides the wings, it doesn't look all that special.
...and it's the first big, flying, composite tube. That makes it a big deal. Like any other major first in aviation... and face it, they don't come often! How long has the "airliner" been pretty much exactly what they all are today?... Long time...
This is damned innovative! ...and that Boeing is doing it... Boeing - the quintessential, "we've done it this way for years, and by gum it works, so we ain't changin'!" company - is being innovative at all?!
Wow! ...Yessir, it's a big deal.

I can tell you why that nose and windscreen gets my attention: it translates into QUIET cockpits!Schlem wrote:With that nose and the new design windscreens it doesn't look like a Boeing anymore.
The original DeHavilland Comet had the most streamlined nose. So much so that Sud Aviation used the same one on their successful Caravelle model.
Too bad I'll be retired the same month as the first one arrives.

Ahh, well I guess you guys are right. Sorry for being a party poops on a day when aviation advances. Imagine when we have flying cars! ISTP, imagine that caddi floating in the sky...
