Yakin Cojo's

Post by Demosthenes »

Ok I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who can't get the cojo to shut up. I don't mind conversationin the cockpit but the job's gotta get done. I have to cut the kid off to get SOP calls in. It doesn't stop inside the cockpit either. Whether talking to ATC or the gate agents, it seems he needs to be prompted to do his own job and then in flight contunually asks me if I've got my share of the work done. Nice guy and all but somtimes I feel like turning off the intercom.

Anyone have any suggestions how to get him to calm the heck down?

D.

Be direct, if that fails. actually turn off the intercom. Some people are clueless to how annoying they are. If you can't discuss this issue how will you approach something serious?

You're the captain, right? Tell this guy what you expect from him and get him on the right track. Part of your job, apart from being cool and being the boss, is to train this guy.

Sorry, but if he's acting funny, its your fault.

Intercoms are a safety device, turning one off as a method to stop an FO from unnecessary yapping is not good CRM.

Since talking non-stop has nothing to do with being a cojo, what does a cojo do when the Cap'n won't shut up?

If a crew is talking so much on the intercom that they miss ATC clearances what else are they missing?

Shuts up, listens and acts really excited about what's being talked about. Now THAT'S an FO!!!

Put your mike boom up and after they're done talking and look at you for a response just look at them and point to the mic.

as Cat Driver said, don't turn off the intercom, besides you might want to talk with passengers. Just reach over and break off his mic plug in. He will probably get the idea.
