CF lowers vision standard for pilots.

Post by mcrit »

The CF just lowered the vision requirements for pilots. This means that if you wear glasses, but are correctable to 20/20, they will process your application. Now, before anyone gets to excited, bear in mind that there are not that many spots this year, so glasses or not, it's still a tight competition to get in.

Spoke to an officer in CFRC Toronto today and V2 standard is now becoming V3 which means glasses corrected to 20/20 is acceptable.

Good Luck to all this opens doors for

Cheers

30 yrs old is nothing. We had 40 yrs old guys in training. The joke was that they got their retirement posting as their first posting.

Wow - look at how many people have already viewed this post already. And so few spots...

Good luck to all! (and I am not being sarcastic)

Oh and Reserve Pilots - you're right - they are mostly ex-CF'ers...

Well that's it.

Time to get a degree and enlist.

I'm sure they'd take a 37 year old graduate of Soo College!

Great news!

Whoa whoa whoa.

Before you guys get too excited the email that came across my desk said to accept applications and process people with V2(ie we'll do everything but offer you the job), but not select them just yet. The door is open but not quite all the way, at least in Calgary.

I'll double check it tomorrow for the V2 vs V3 thing

Night-Hawk I have to agree with Adam Oake but there is also the CEOTP. This means you can graduate from a recognized Aviation College, such as the Confederation Colleges Aviation Flight Management Program and get direct entry officer training on the condition that you will acquire a degree before the end of your first tour, approx 9 years from when you start.

There are also the option of getting accepted and going to Royal Military College to obtain your degree as well.

I suggest you talk to a recruiter and figure out what is best for you! Good luck!!

CEOTP is not open right now. ROTP is the surest way. DEO spots have been very limited lately but they seem to be opening up a bit.

I've never heard a straigt answer from two different recruiters on CEOTP. One says it is, you call back 10 mins later or to a different station, and the other says it is not.

Personally, if you can go ROTP, go that route. It is a much better plan.
It does open occassionally but it also closes fast. They only have so many slots it may be none to 20, 30 or 40 something never too many. The amount of applications they receive is well, alot to put it lightly. Needless to say, it fills up fast especially when guys who didn't receive an offer from ROTP might only have to re-interview to receive a CEOTP offer provided their medical is still valid. As a buddy of mine did.

As I mentioned earlier, there are a ton of slots open for CEOTP Artillery - you can always remuster later. MUHAHAHAHAHA. (you might've heard that one too).

For those of us who don't know, what's this V2 and V3 thing? What are the requirements for each level and what do they enable? What is 20/20 uncorrected vision currently classified as?

Well if you can find a recruiting centre that'll take your application under that program then good on ya. Pilot recruiting has been scaled back quite a bit compared to when I joined in 03/04. When the next "shortage" strikes they might reopen CEOTP but for now its only open for a few trades. Off the top of my head they include MARS, Artillery, Infantry.

Also CEOTP wasn't just for flight schools, it was for anyone grade 12 and up. Having the diploma got you a bypass through ACS and PFT and a big advantage in the selection.

The pilot trade has so many people hanging around waiting right now recruiting was just a trickle until recently - except ROTP as those guys take a few years to get into the backlog.

20/20 uncorrected is V1. I'll ask the medics tomorrow what gets you V2 and V3 if no one answers before that.
