A note from a ramp guy to an MPE pilot
I won't name names, but you had short red hair and you have to be one of the nicest 737 Captains I've ever met, professional and down to earth.
This was in YQM on Monday the 16th
Being a controller working a shift to help out old buddies at the airport it was the first time I've gotten the same respect as a ramp rat as I do as a controller, and that's how it should be.
Thanks for making mine, and my co-workers day, and if you do happen to read this post, did you go swimming in YQT?

It's nice when you come across a big airline driver that still remember's what it's like to be on the other end of things. Once upon a time slinging bags for WJ we had an FO jump into the pit and help pack because they were going to take a delay. Not only did he help out with the bags he chatted with us like we were human beings and cared enough to be proactive about the delay as opposed to bitching about it. Very cool.

And why not? I don't get it when pilots think they are so much better than the rampie/CSA/AME or whoever. It is a team effort to do this stuff and I hate to say it, because I'm one of them, but pilots can be dicks to these people. Some have an attitude that just pisses me off, they think they are better than everyone else, just because they are a pilot.Nightflight wrote:It's a simple philosophy. Well hey, I'm one too (as well as being an engineer) and everyone in the hangar thinks I'm a pretty good guy because I treat them well and try to teach them a thing or two. The rampies (we hire mostly ame students)like me because they get to do their job without being shit on and actually get to work on airplanes now and then.. The CSA's love me, not just because I'm the dirty old man, because I treat them with respect and do what I can to help them.
As quoted above, treat people the way you would like to be treated. For newbies, treat them the way you wish you had been treated. It will come back to you in more ways than you can imagine..
Cheers

I can remember about 5 years ago this same guy (Was then an F/O with 5T) went completely out of his way to help me out...The place I was working at had ID90's with Cdn North. I ended up sitting jumpseat due to a sold out flight. We missed in YEG and went to our alternate of YYC. I had a flight that I was going to try to make which was departing out of YYC. This guy escorted me to the back of the A/C (passed by all the people waiting in their seats for info on "what to do next!"), onto the ramp, and went into the belly himself to get my bag. He then ran with me across the ramp to get to the closest door. I ended up making my connection by about 5 minutes...couldn't belive the trouble he went through to help me (I was a rampie at the time). I'm sure he probably can't remember this, but thought it was a good story of a guy "going the extra mile"...
