Aerobatics w/helmet cam

Post by Hedley »

A friend of mine just got a helmet cam, and recently filmed some aerobatics in his Pitts S-1T:

Note for Transport Inspectors: the roll on takeoff is perfectly legal, as he holds a valid SFOC in respect of CAR 602.27(d) issued as per CAR 603.67. Feel free to contact Wayne Harper in Tower C to verify this.

The only time you have too much fuel, is when you crash.

Look it up under the CARs:
Aerobatic Manoeuvres - Prohibited Areas and Flight Conditions

602.27 No person operating an aircraft shall conduct aerobatic manoeuvres

(a) over a built-up area or an open-air assembly of persons;

(b) in controlled airspace, except in accordance with a special flight operations certificate issued pursuant to section 603.67;

(c) when flight visibility is less than three miles; or

(d) below 2,000 feet AGL, except in accordance with a special flight operations certificate issued pursuant to section 603.02 or 603.67.

Very cool. I used to fly aerobatics in a Grob 115C over the practice area near Gatineau and Carp.

I have since lost my recency for the aircraft since someone busted open the canopy and it was sent away to get repairs. I'll have to get it back again. :D

All was perfectly legal. Its not a built up area, I have permission from the airport and Nav canada to use the space over the airport for aerobatics and I have a valid Transport Canada Special Flight Operations Certificate permitting aerobatics below 2000' at that location.

Have been doing this pretty much 2-3 times a week now for nearly 7 years.

Oh, no. I wasn't saying that you did anything wrong, the one guy just asked what you did on T/O that may have been going against the CARs. I simply stated the CARs reference and as Hedley said, you had all the required documentation etc.

Nice video, but I almost got sick after a while. I'll stick to straight and level :D .

Here is another one shot today.

This one has some low-ish upside down shots. Unfortunately the cam was not angled exactly right so you cannot see the runway all that clearly.

I'll do a cockpit floor mounted shot one of these days so you can see the terrified look on my face.
