Pilots attacked by psgr with axe
Unreal.......great job on the guys for getting it down safely.
OSLO, Norway (Reuters) -- A man attacked two pilots and a passenger with an ax on a domestic Norwegian flight, police said.
The pilots, who witnesses said were covered in blood, managed to land the small Kato Air plane which was flying seven passengers from Narvik to Bodoe in northern Norway Wednesday.
Passengers said the attacker, in his 30s, stood up without warning just minutes before the plane landed and walked to the open cockpit to attack the pilots. Some passengers screamed in fear while two others managed to overpower him.
"The flight was about to land when both pilots were attacked with an ax," said Margrete Torseter, a police official in Salten district in northern Norway. It appeared to be a random attack and the motive was not immediately clear.
The attacker, who told police he was Algerian, was arrested at Bodoe airport. Police said he had probably carried the ax when he boarded the flight in Narvik, contrary to earlier information that it was an ax belonging to the aircraft's emergency equipment.
"We don't know how he got the ax on board. He is at the police station now, not physically hurt," Torseter said.
The Nordland hospital in Bodoe said the three injured men, aged between 30 and 45, were being treated for head injuries. One had a deep cut in the forehead.
Witnesses said the injured pilots gave a thumbs-up signal to the passengers to let them know that they would land safely after warning the air control tower about the attack.
"Suddenly I heard someone cry out: "Come and help," passenger Irene Lokland, 45, told Norwegian NRK radio. "I thought we were going to die. I was picturing my three children in my mind."
She said she was one of several passengers who helped hold the attacker down until the flight landed at around 11 a.m. (0900 GMT) and police dragged him out of the plane.
Random violent crime is rare in Norway, but one person was killed and five others wounded last month when a knife attacker stabbed passengers a tram in the capital Oslo.

Just the way I like to live: in a state of constant paranoia.LT wrote:

LT,
I can't really agree with your comments.
If there was an individual here in Canada that wished to do the same, it wouldn't be hard to get an axe on a small commuter aircraft. Most of you can probably name numerous communities, even some cities, that are serviced by commuter airplanes that have no form of preboarding security screening.
What is to stop somebody from having a small axe, knife etc. in their carry-on baggage in these places? Nothing. And unless it has changed, all of those planes that have no flight attendant onboard have to leave the cockpit door open to be able to monitor the back.
Maybe we will soon have the pilots doing the preboarding screening and searching the baggage before they depart.
Thankfully the other passengers jumped up to help subdue the psycho.
My opinion is that they did a good job!

Earlier this year i hopped on a Pasco goose when i needed to get home early from the bush. My rifle was sticking out of my pack. My knife was on my belt. Other non-disclosable weapons were there but not obvious. A couple of the passengers looked a little disconcerted, but the pilot did not bad an eyelid.
And the strangest thing: the sky did not fall on our heads, the plane made it to hardy without the engines exploding, and the flight wasn't even hijacked. I don't understand how we managed to do that without CATSAs high priced, superlatively erudite goons protecting us.
In addition, i believe that the axe in question was the aircraft's fire axe. It was not smuggled on board.

Well damnit, why aren't the unions(well the US boys are trying) to get us bloody guns.. Fark it...Pratt wrote: What is to stop somebody from having a small axe, knife etc. in their carry-on baggage in these places? Nothing. !
Pprune had a good thread going on about fighter escorts, ie: the guys that will shoot you down. If I'm gonna be shot down OR blown up, I might as well take the chance and die shooting.
ROFL, seriously? "flying seven passengers" I thought it would have been one of their Caravans..Airplane was a Do228. No cockpit door, just a curtain
In addition, i believe that the axe in question was the aircraft's fire axe. It was not smuggled on board.
But this reporter.. Well, this story wasn't really well written.. =(Police said he had probably carried the ax when he boarded the flight in Narvik, contrary to earlier information that it was an ax belonging to the aircraft's emergency equipment.
ahramin lol...
