Quick question - how many attemps do you get at the NavCanada selection process? Also, since I've just been Kabonged it would be nice to hear from some people who were successful on their second attempt.

I don't know personally, but I know of at least one person who made it on their second attempt.
However that being said most people continue to fail, it's quite rare someone will pass after failing, it's an aptitude test, you're born with that aptitude or not. Or so they say anyway
There are things that you can do to help/hinder yourself. Get lots of sleep, be relaxed, and eat lots of healthy good energy food to make sure your brain is working its best when you get in there.

Here is my take: I failed round 1. I will attempt round 2 later this year. I know that I did well on the actual testings (because I got an interview, and I was told I by the interviewer that very few people got interviews).
My feeling is that I blew it out either (a) on the interview itself, (b) the referals were not strong, or (c) they didn't like my school transcripts (my high school marks weren't that great, problem child times).
I can't fix C. I can look for better referals in b, and I think I can do a better interview next time in a.
Where did you fail? If you didn't get an interview then you likely didn't pass the initial tests. You can improve your initial tests somewhat by studying things like spatial relations and working at copying letter number groups, but as inverted said, at testing time you have it or you don't. If you blew it off at test time, it might be harder to overcome the reasons you didn't do well.
If nothing else, use the 12 months in between tests as as time to improve what you think you did poorly on. There are a couple of decent books out there with mind tests including spatial relations, which can be good.

Just want to touch this thread again, probably my only comment on this until I know more.
First off, I am trying again, at age 43, to get in. Testing in the next 30 days, I shall see how I do. Although I still am not entirely sure why I failed out after getting the interview, I have sort of deduced a few things that leave me pretty sure that the interview was the issue.
I found out recently from someone else who passed and ended up getting in that they have issues with the references originally, and they were contacted to get a different reference. That would suggest that if there is a problem with references, that I would have been contacted.
I have also had it made clear by SHL themselves that the issue of school marks doesn't come up: If you have the diploma that says you graduated, the marks won't come into the discussion normally.
So it comes down to the interview. I think I blew the interview by doing it in French (I was born in Quebec but I am a native english speaker) and I likely didn't express myself as well or as completely in that session. So I am working from that premise at this point.
So, back to studying a bit and making sure I am comfortable with the tests again so I can ace them and move on to step 2 for another try.

Alex, buy 'Interviews for dummies'. I went through about 7 or 8 interviews, with different companies and Nav Canada and did great on everything except the interview. I bought this book out of desparation and couldn't believe how bad I was doing things. Trust me on this one because the next interview I did I got the job.
Funny about the interviews for dummies thing. I bought a book for a buddy of mine after the two of us wrote the ATC aptitude test. He really wanted the job, I was indifferent, he didnt get a call for the interview...I eventually got a licence. I bought him the jobs for dummies book...havent heard from him since.
I feel bad that he took it the wrong way....he was way smarter than me too.
