YZF turbo otter
The company that runs the turbo otter out of YZF wrote it off last night. All on board were ok, happened on take-off out of old town.

Think about how many Otters are out there, and how many the factory is pumping out these days. Of course they will rebuild it, unless it was absolutely mangled, which thankfully it was not.

There was also an article in the News/North, but I don't have the on-line version. In it, a commercial fisherman is credited with rescuing the folks in his Lund. Since the plane apparently didn't flip, the pax and crew were already out and on the float.
Good to hear everyone was ok, hopefully this does not happen again soon.

TSB Investigator talks on Air Tindi incident
It was a terrifying incident for passengers on board an Air Tindi flight Friday evening. At about 7:15 their plane took off from East Bay but it wasn't in the air very long before a problem developed. The engine stalled and the left wing touched the water forcing the whole plane to crash into the lake. Mike Thom, operations investigtor for the Transportation Safety Board says he has examined the plane and the investigation is moving forward based on their knowledge of the incident and pilot's reports. He says damage to the plane is consistent with a slower speed, approximately 50 foot drop. The seven passengers and two crew were thrown into the cold water and had to deal with leaking fuel as well. The investigation in the crash is continuing.

I was told it was not overwiegt, rather not loaded correctly, and with wind gusts over 50++ that day, it was airborn before it should have been. The tail was heavy and when the gust was gone the nose went up and stalled.
I was in YK visiting when it happend. I think only 2 or 3 passengers even got wet.
Great to see that no one was hurt,
This is a good example that you can survive when a float plane goes down in the water.

10-15 knots at most at time of accident. everything else pretty much accurate.

Thanks guys for putting me straight, ref that type on my website.
Had my doubts myself as I did not recall seeing the Turbo Otter with Tindi then (july 2006).
I sat on the deck at my B&B right opposite Tindi's seaplane base, enjoyed the action.
Anyone know if Joe and Mary Bryant sold their place and moved east?
Had a lovely stay there, best place in town, esspecially if you like that plane action on your doorstep.

Ruudleeuw:
yes, the Bryants, Mary and Wayne, are moving east to Meaford, Ontario (or south, as any location below 60N is refered to by northerners). I'm not sure if the B&B was sold or if they are simply shutting the doors. Good place for snax and excellent hospitality. An article on their going away party was written on pg.22 in the 'Yellowknifer' on Wed, Aug 22, 2007.

I always get a kick out of journalists who report "the engine stalled." Classic layman speak.
