Yup, wait a year and a half or so when their graduating buddies will have passed then in total hours and are getting upgrades on metros, king Airs, 1900s, etc. making more money and racking up the Turbine PIC.tofo wrote:but everyone around them should be making more than navajo drivers and that will rub off on them. I'd be willing to bet you'll hear within three months from at least one if not all of them. "we fly RJ's and we earn less than bush pilots, this is bull shit."

I am just curious, was the interview for college candidates geared specifically for them or was it the same as every other candidate? How would they be able to answer the question "Describe a time when a capt. had to take control from you." "Tell us about a time when you had to take control from the F/O."
Not interested in a pissing match here just wondering.

Luis, Congrats on getting on. Back in flight school, I too would have jumped at this opportunity.Luis wrote:I'm one of the 8 grads and I'm looking foward to work with guys that have a lot to show me and create a good work atmosphere. I fully understand people that doesn't agree with this program but I hope that we won't be victims of that, because we will need help from you more than any other employees.
As you are probably aware most on here are against the practice of hiring right out of school, myself being one of the more vocal. I don’t agree with it and think this could have negative repercussions for Jazz.
That being said I can’t see anyone (pilots anyway) who will give you any trouble. We were all in your shoes once upon a time, and given the chance, most would have taken Jazz too. I think most guys/gals will be very helpful, patient, and will take the extra time to help bring you folks up to speed.
I just hope, you and your classmates all come to Jazz with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and leave the stereotypical college cocky attitude at the door. You folks are extremely lucky and I hope you realize this.
Again, congrats on your accomplishment. Don’t let the politics of this effect this experience.

im assuming these guys/ladies will be slated for dash 8 spots. are these folks all seneca or from across the board???
i havent flown commercially in a few years maybe i should apply - ill probably end up on the top of the pile with hiring practices like this. no offence to the guys getting the gigs, i would have accepted without a doubt. however this is simply a joke. if it was an ab initio type gig where these guys went from 0 - 250 fair game but this is crap for the industry. this is their way to justify paying sweet f&*k all to you guys.

Don't forget here folks, these guys will have less than 300 hours for the most part. As tough as it is to upgrade to the left seat at Jazz, these guys will be permanantly stuck in the right seat and with that comes the right seat pay scale due to lack of PIC time. I don't see the day where any of these folks will be captain on any heavy metal.
guess again. In a union enviroment your number is everything. That means upgrades. Yes they will be able to fly the plane in 10 years, have seen more then enough, but they will still lack the seasoned communication and decission making that only comes with PIC experience.

Dear God I will NEVER put myself or my family into a Jazz airplane again. Seriously, what a clown show. Renting a C152 so you can hold the license to command an aircraft at a supposedly professional airline?! Talk about circumventing the spirit of the rules.
I feel sorry for the good guys at Jazz, it makes a mockery of the profession and their own hard-won experience. But it'll be WestJet or driving for me.

ROTFLMAO, WOW thats pretty bad that your going to RENT an aircraft so that you can get the night PIC time required to get a higher licence so you can be a captain on an airliner. WOWLuis wrote:

I'd love to be there actually to see you go from 150 knots and flairing at 30' to a 152 at night, doing 40 knots and flairing at 5 feet. I mean with all your PIC time the discipline is definetaly there to master that.
Good Luck
I feel sorry for ALLL Jazz Captains, and especially sorry for the pax's on jazz flights

Congrats on getting on. No offence but you just told all of us the reason why I think this whole college grad fiasco is a bad idea. You may have a tough time finding the time and money to rent an Airplane (specailly @ 35K). Also, make sure you get permission from Flight opd before you do that.

I don't blame you for taking the job. At 200 hours I would have jumped at the opportunity if it was presented to me. Today I am glad I was not presented with it. I do blame the company for putting you into that position.

Nevertheless Good luck with your training. All the best.
Cheers.
I have been told by several Capt. while flying with them, that it will be their intention to find the names of these 8 lab mice and either flight switch out of the pairing or if unable, then call in sick for it, when their names appear on the pairing.
They sight several reasons for this,
- not being paid to be a training Captain
- not being paid to be a baby sitter
- it is far too fatiguing to go through a 3 or 4 day pairing
when the weather is down, and basically be flying by yourself.
- in light of the recent gear crushing landing performed by a very new
FO who had not alot but still much more experience than the lab mice,
they simply don't need that happening to them
And to be honest, I can´t blame them for their position on this.
These guys should be flying with nothing other than training guys for
their first year on the line.
It is far too much to expect from a standard line Captain.
Hey MC.......You are a total jack ass for doing this !!!!!!
Happy you are out the door !!!!

Exactly, all the guys I am with are actually worried. How you supposed to do a CAT 3 with a guy that has only flown an ils to lets face it 300' and never done a true go around.
One guy put it, when we fly we ask each other what do you think, like weather if there is a big storm system you talk about best course of action to do. With these guys its going to be, well heres how it works. ok got that.
Now what do you think we should do, and remember RED is bad.
Now I wonder how the company would handle it if the media found out what we got paid and that there was 200 hour wonders flying the already nervous general public around
I wonder what people would say if the government were to say 'Ok from now on all med students who have graduated from med school can now practice as doctors...no internship necessary!' I know they are with a Captain.. but to me there will still be a gaping hole in the right seat experience-wise and that is something that should never happen. MTC

I can't see many Captains calling in sick or doing much to get out of a pairing with these guys. If the union conducts a risk assessment and says everything looks OK, Captains calling in sick are going to have no support and you know the company will be watching.
I'm sure a few will write these guys up for things that they would have let slide from an experienced F/O.
That may work in the company's favour though, they're going to want to know where these guys screw up so they can address it in the college program and hire more grads, not get rid of the existing ones.
Unless we see massive screw ups, this is going to be the new path to a spot at Jazz. The only thing were going to see a year from now is a slight change on the resigned list, it will have no names listed for the classes that were made up of college grads.

The mass exodus to WestJet probably just increased 10 fold. It really doesn't make any sense to me...amazing how things change. You need 2000 hours to be a FO on a 1900, but 250 to be a FO on a RJ? So I guess the RJ is much easier to fly than the 1900? A very, very screwed up industry in this country indeed. Clunkdriver said it best about Cathay having a structured program for these cadets, but to just pluck them from a college that is not run by the airline? I thought insurance companies and lawyers were here to prevent this sort of thing from happening.
Not saying that I agree with the hiring practice but I know many people that have had to do this. They are flying a 704 airplane and when it comes time to upgrade you can only count 100 hours of supervised PIC if your company has the program. This can lead to a few people having to rent an airplane to do a couple hours of PIC or even night PIC to get there ATPL.ROTFLMAO, WOW thats pretty bad that your going to RENT an aircraft so that you can get the night PIC time required to get a higher licence so you can be a captain on an airliner. WOW
You're at your upgrade what would you do? Quit and go to another job just to get a couple hours of PIC or suck it up and stay at the job you are enjoying and about to get captain at?
Happens quite often.
