I was woken by my frantic mother and dragged into the parents room with the TV on! Father was on his way over the pacific right in the middle of this.
They cancelled school that day and my buddies and I drove out to YVR to watch all the crazy traffic landing (and the CF-18's and other fighters pass over)
My fathers 340 and the crew had no idea what had happened until intercepted somewhere over the orient and escorted to their destination.
It's amazing that even though it was Five years ago.. I remember that day like it was yesterday..

I was in first year at Sault College, on a break from Mr. Disano's physics class. I just remember everyone gathered around the TV that was by the doors to the E-wing. Went back to class, but Mr. Disano let us leave saying "I think the events going on today are far more important that what I would've taught you", or something to that effect. Went home and watched CNN like most of North America.

Had just landed in Windsor, sent pax on their way across the border to Detroit in their rental car (it was faster to land in YQG and drive over, than land at DET or DTW for them), when walked in and saw 2 other crews standing (since when do we ever stand, its not cool!) staring at the tv, watching the 1st tower burn. The announcers were saying stuff like "small private airplane" etc, we all were commenting no way too much smoke, beautiful clear day, etc, when I saw (and screeched) the second aircraft come into the live feed, and deliberately turn into the 2nd tower. Talk about a stomach-dropping, dizzying sick feeling. Immediately, we all rushed to contact passengers, base ops, etc. Sat around till about 5or 6pm, heard that the pax went north to Pt Huron to get across the border, got a rental car, drove home. Was a Tues, thank god we had an ICAO call sign, when airspace 1st opened only "commercial" operators with call signs could fly, went and brought the plane home. Were swamped with trips for the rest of the year, no one wanted to fly commercial. Can still see that second aircraft just as clear as it happening, and then all the horrible replays after.
"oh, I have slipped.." into what, we're not sure
Landed at YYZ at 9:00 am and unfortunatly got cleared to takeoff for nothern Ont before the Airspace closed down. Was hoping to get diverted to somewhere more south but we asked and they said we were good to destination and so we spent 3 days in a small town in Nortern Ont drinking. Was a sureal day. Was in Ny at fround zero a month later looking at it, most unbelievable thing I had ever seen.
I was in Grade 9 Business class, our very strange teacher came in and announced that a plane hit the World Trade Centre. We couldn't figure out what she was talking about, and what it had to do with business. Then she went on to say a bit more about it and we realized it was a serious thing. For the rest of the day we went from class to class getting updated information from the teachers about what happened. On the way home our school bus passed YHM and there were planes everywhere. I got home and watched TV for most of the night, stunned, unable to believe that what I was seeing actually happened. It's been 5 years and I can remember the exact seat I was in when the teacher told us that. Still get chills when they show a clip of the planes flying into the WTC. It is unfortunate that people are still dying as a result of the attacks. May all the people who died in the attacks, and the soldiers in Afghanistan who are still being killed as a result, rest in peace.

I was in bed sleeping when I was partially awoken by my frantic mother. I thought I was having a bad dream and went back to bed. I figured what ever it was that was freaking her out could wait till I was done sleeping. I eventually got up, went down stairs and watched the first tower colapse, live.
...and then I got paid to fly....

5 yrs ago the world stood still watching the horrific events unfold. I know i will never forget seeing the towers burn from my airplane at JFK. On this anniversary I think it imperative we step back and remember the lives lost on such a black day. to those of you who serve in the forces - as a proud Canadian I thank you for serving and doing your best when called upon.
safe flying

Just an average man doing heroes work
I was coming across the floating bridge in Kelowna on my way to work when the news came over the radio. Got to work just in time to see the second tower hit. Was an awful day at work. Now the news that many of my peirs are suffering from the effects of the dust, a sad day that continues to take it's toll.

Sure enough everyone was gathered around the tubes in the lobby the teachers had put out. Our dumbass teacher wouldnt let us go and just wanted to talk about it....i put on my earphones at that point and tuned into howard stern...i thought, if it was real...stern would probably be talking about it. sad day.

Sept 11th, 2001 I had just arrived on a Northwest flight into Vegas about 4 hours before the first plane hit the WTC. (arrived after 1 am local time in Vegas). I was staying with friends who would normally let me sleep in when I first got there, but after the second plane hit, they woke me up with the "I think you are going to want to see this".
I spent around 10 days in Vegas, the most quiet that city has been in years. Everyone that was in town was broke, nobody wasy flying in, Casinos were empty, and with not aircraft flying, it was really quiet in town. How odd.
On the way home NW gave me a plastic knife and fork in first class.

Waking up to pounding at the door from my mother saying" there has been a terrible plane accident!" As soon as I turned on the T.V. my hear sank, I couldnt' believe what was happening. Later I went to school and watch the news. Oddly enough, I had aviation class that day and we ended up watching CF-18's overhead, listening to ATIS (incredible) and YVR center.
I also pulled up the METAR for JFK and read the report to the class with reports of FU and dust from the burning and collapsed towers...I think I still have that METAR..i'll try and post it I finished the day off with a trip to YVR to look at the grounded aircraft..I still have pics to this day.
Even more saddening was the comments from a certain ethnicity in my class. Multiculturalism eh?:butthead: We also lost our air cadet parade square at the YVR Air Canada MTCE hangar for about two weeks after the attacks.

Was in the Middle East, had just graduated University and was taking a few months off before I start my CPL training.
Believe it or not, I was making out with my girlfriend at the time, since it was around 3pm when it happened (+2GMT).
I was interrupted by the phone from my uncle, telling me to put on CNN and watch. He said they were talking about a small plane having crashed into the WTC.
I continued watching for a few hours, and saw the 2nd building get hit live.
I came back to Canada through FRA 3 weeks later, and started the CPL training a month later.
