I heard the last g/s was mentioning Seniority numbers in the 600's, (if you can call it that).

Here's my rumours:

We were at 551 last week..with two 700 classes starting tomorrow and about two weeks after. So I think that would be around 567ish. I think we have 16 firm orders of NG's for 2005 to spring 2006 with very few 200's actually getting parked. I've also heard the figure of around 180 pilots for 2005.

But wasn't the point of ordering the 600's to replace the 200's which needed heavy maintenance? I was told that each 200 would have to go under an inspection that involved removing the tailcone and apu, and would take up to 9 weeks each.

Of course, I could have been fed misinformation, but that never happens in aviation! :?

No expert but I've been told the biggest limitation is RVSM for the 200's. The option was to trap 200's on low altitude routes like YUL,YOW/YYZ and YYC/YEG. I've only heard that the everytime WestJet tries to park a 200 lately the marketing department freaks because they have too much work for it.

I was also in the training centre today where we met 8 new faces, and the next two ground schools are suppose to be 10 to 12 each. I think the buzz in hiring has to do with the Winter charter season.

at $52 barrel for oil, the 200's might be going sooner than originally planned. Crew chat yesterday was good, 2005 3-600, 7-700, 5-800. no firm numbers on retiring the 200' though.
