I also just got this letter and I interviewed at the beginning of July. My references were checked at about the 6 week mark. I also have the same questions regarding what this letter really means as it sort of puts you into a holding pattern as to what to do with your life.
Is there anybody here who interviewed after the end of June who was actually offered a course date?

what about the re-apply people
Just wondering about the people who recieved the re-apply letters this summer. Since, mainline won't interview any more applicants after this month untill next spring. What pile do these the people fall in to? ( lets say.. some were getting hired.) Might they still get hired up over the winter or not?
Wondering

What does it mean to pre-board? Do you get on before you get on?
I think if you received a "re-apply in 6 months" letter then you will have to interview and re-test again at some point. I don't think you are in the pool at this point unless you are one of the "qualified candidates".
As for my time, I consider myself to be very lucky. 3000TT 2000PIC 800Multi-turbine PIC.

basically like the others above. not a PFO but a letter stating that your a competitive candidate thus far and that when the time comes to hire they will look throught the list of "competitve candidates" and go from there, at least thats how I interpret it. anyone else have any ideas?

Imagine a room that only holds 200 " competitive candidates" ( I picked 200 out of thin air)ccbor wrote:

Every individual who meets the benchmarks on all phases of the interview process gets to go in to the room.
Everyone in this room stands in a line based on their over all score.
The next course requiring 15 takes the top 15.
Individuals keep interviewing, and re gigging of the line continually takes place based on individual scores. It is possible to be new to the room with a real high score and go to the front of the line. It is also possible to have a score barely above benchmark and never get far enough along the line to be called for ground school.
If the room gets too full? If competitive candidates out pace hiring then the room will exceed 200. If the room exceeds 200 then the lowest score individuals are removed from the room to bring the total back to 200.
Hence the late PFO letter.
Basically when you enter the room you enter a line based on how you did relative to others in the room. As hiring and interviewing takes place you either stagnate in the line, retreat in the line and are eventually removed, or you move up the line and are hired.
HINT BIG BIG HUGE HINT
If you know someone who interviewed and got hired quickly talk to them.
It means they went to the front of the line.

Brick Head,

I would say Brick Head has it spot on. That is also my understanding of how it works.windowseat wrote:Individuals keep interviewing, and re gigging of the line continually takes place based on individual scores. WindowSeat your dreaming buddy!!! Would you choose the fat chick just because she got in the pool first if Pamela Anderson showed up later. AC bought your friend a drink (minimal investment) just to keep the door open but they will keep on taking home the Pamela Anderson's as long as they keep walking thru the door.

Invited into listen to the DFO give a state of the union talk to a new hire class.windowseat wrote:

My take on the tone of the talk was that he was also trying to deflate expectations. Things are slowing down. Advancement that was experienced by those hired in the last few years is gone.
