Liberal Senator Colin Kenny said during a recent visit to Victoria that B.C.'s coastal transportation systems are vunerable to terrorist attacks. Float-plane passengers should receive the same security screening required of passengers travelling through ariports, Kenny said.

"These aircraft take off fully loaded very close to buildings and there's just zero reaction time," Kenny told the Victoria Times Colonist.

Wright said he doesn't envision any such changes.

Kenny headed a Senate committee on national security and defence that in March released a critical report on security. The report suggested float planes be subject to the same passenger and baggage checks as those in larger airports. "Instead of checking in 10 minutes ahead of time, you'd have to check in 15 minutes ahead," Kenny said.
Wow it is a real shame we don't elect these intellectual giants. Gee Senator how about we do the same for buses, taxi's, trains, ferries, and any other modes of transportation.

Ok, I know this quote is from the CC-117 thread, but I just couldn't help myself...

You can read the report here:
http://www.parl.gc.ca/39/1/parlbus/comm ... ar07-e.pdf

That's the part regarding airports. The rest, about border crossings and seaports can be found here:
http://www.parl.gc.ca/common/Committee_ ... comm_id=76

He makes a lot of sense. He is not partisan at all when he makes these statements.

I do hope that my son and I never see the day when a private pilot has to pass through security to fly his/her own aircraft from a private aerodrome. I am well aware that to get air-side from some terminal buildings, you have to go through security, but I do not want to go through security screenings at FBOs just to fly my aircraft, or hop on an executive charter.

If a terrorist wanted to blow up a building in Vancouver, he could do more damage by parking a rented van full of diesel fuel and ammonia in front of the building and torching it. GMAFB.

Personally I think security for seaplane passengers should be stepped up... We have our fair share of drunk sometimes truly pissed off and irate passengers who shouldnt fly and definitly be next to the pilot on the plane for instance. If you fly from the south terminal at YVR to Victoria on Pasco's 1900's they seat 19 pax and you have to go through CATSA security, whats the difference if you're on a fully loaded Twin Otter with 18 people and NO cockpit door. Downtown Vancouver harbour is much closer to downtown and they land directly in Victoria Harbour around government buildings. If it takes 10 more minutes to get on your flight big boo at least security wise it's safer... maybe it can even deter idiot passengers from thinking they can just walk up 5 minutes before boarding time and think they can just hop on the flight like there are obviosly no standby people waiting to get on.

The problem you're obviously having is that you don't realize security is just for appearances, window-dressing for the sheeple if you will. The last thing we need is more USELESS security.

A bomb threat, eh? Ofcourse it should be investigated as such, but it's probably just a pissed off harbour resident. They're always complaining. If it isn't the racket its the exhaust fumes. A few years back someone was actually ballsy enough to try and light the dock fuel lines on fire! Dumb bastards should have did their research before buying their condos in the harbour! They're working harbours which means industry and noise!
