The future of lo-cost airlines: Pilots without licences!! Airlines without insurance!! Private aircraft operated commercially!!
Fundamentally I agree with .; the fewer rules, beaurocrats, government agencies, and taxes, the better. But on the other hand, pilots and airlines are licensed (and insured) for a reason.
This is a charter flight no matter how you slice it and without a commercial pilot license and operating certificate it is illegal, full stop.

It's not even the legalities of his situation that get me. Truth be told I may have done something similar when I was building time, but for friends and family. .'s right that TC seems to want to get their paws into every little facet of aviation with rules and regs.
A long time ago I taught at a school with a larger single, a light twin, a 703 OC and fair pricing (as far as I could tell). We thought we had great support from the local flying club until we found out that a couple of members(including one of our most vocal "supporters" was doing chisel charters in his light twin. Just pay for gas and he'll fly you anywhere. I even found a poster he had made at another local airport.
After I calmed down I approached him and pointed out that he was effectively taking food out of my son's mouth, not to mention the other couple instructors/pilots we had working for us. He was quite receptive and as far as I know, that was the end of that.
Sorry for the story time, bu that's where I was coming from in my original post.
Cheers

This has been the most depressing thing I've read in ages.
Seriously. Anyone wants to split the hairs here, it is NOT a charter. Read the goddamn CAR's.
When I was looking for work back when I did the road trip I never logged onto this site because I found it so negative and discouraging. This shit is reminding my why.
C'mon, it's not like this guy is some 703 sleaze bag trying to get 5k out of you for a Navaho PPC, he's trying to help someone out for chrissakes. And we gotta shit all over some stranger for offering.
Nice. Really. F***in. Nice.
Makes me embarrassed to be a member of this community.

Look at it this way.
If people like us did not post here the lunatics would truly run the asylum.
I also sometimes feel it is hopeless reading some of the drivel that is posted here, but then I say to myself....self ....you should tell it like it is.
In the case of the question asked here you said it the way it is.

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

We are so quick to chastise any and every operator that attempts to cut costs, and yet when a customer tries the same thing...from the other side of the law even, he is applauded to trying to, 'help a brother out'?!
Ever stop long enough to put 2 and 2 together? Your boss isn't making you pay for training because he's sadistic, he's doing it because his customers know that airlines/owners/pilots etc. are so effing horny to fly that we'll do it for next to nothing as long as they're shrewd enough to ask. Customer pressure on him translates to employer pressure on you- pretty simple.
So here we are. One minute blowing smoke about poor labour practices, and on the other supporting a customer who really needs a charter flight in a C172 (flown by the school's commercially licensed instructor), but doesn't want to pay for it. 'Help a brother out?' with this kind of crap? No thanks.

Awhile back people would post homemade videos of the airservices they worked for. One in peticular was of a float base in Stoney Rapids by a chap called Oncle and another from the Timmins area. Both these videos were well done and both were immediately attacked by a few of the superior pilots on this site. Both videos were removed by the posters and we have never heard from these guys again. This is how to drive away the positive, productive people and let the negative bitchy types take over. Just as is happening on this thread. When I was attempting to build hours I always felt fortunate when someone would contribute towards the expense of aircraft operating costs.
