Post by Flapless Jack »

Just starting with an airline and need to buy a leather flight bag. Does anyone know where I could get a good flight bag for a resonable price?
PS- I tried ebay

Cheers,

Jack

Here's a recent thread from the WestJet forum. I think if you buy the Scott Leather bag it will be the only one you ever buy. Or you could go with the disposable Staples bags and switch them out every few years.

I went with the staples brand, it was cheap at $90 and works great.

I find that with the way they get treated, after a year they get pretty beat so theres no point in spending alot of money.

Congratulations, If you are near aviation world in yyz they have a nextech nylon bag for around 60 dollars or so... I saw a bunch of folks at my company toting these around and mine has stood up to 6 months of abuse so far.

After everyone around me insisted I had to spend $400 for a flight bag I swore I wouldn't spend more than $10. It took a long time but I finally found one for $10 in Barrie and it's lasted so far for a year and a half and shows no sign of quitting any time soon! If you're in the Barrie area I don't know the name of the store, but it's the discount leather store next door to Zellers. If anyone cares enough I'd be happy to look and see if they still have anything like that next time I go that way. If you're just starting out at an airline you'll need to save every penny you can for the next little bit! Unless you have a sugar-mommy that is!

Thanks a lot for all your advise. I did look at the flight bag on ebay.....thanks a lot. And thanks for the info on the leather store in Barrie. I recently purchased a flight bag from Scott's Leather (no I do not have a sugar momma, nor am I rich). I was really tossing the idea of buying the 150 dollar bag from Staples. But, I made my decision based on two expericnces.

First of all one of the guys in my class recieved a "Scott's" leather bag from his wife. I was really impressed with the quality and the fact that it comes with a lifetime warrenty.

Second, I talked to an instructer who was older than the hills and he had a flight bag that looked like it was from the wright brothers. This thing looked like something you would see on the antique road show. It appeared to be really worked in.......much like a old baseball glove. Anyway, after talking with him for a while he convinced me that if you get a good one like he did it will out last you.....for 360 dollars you have a bag that will last for many years to come. Spend the money now (it a tax right off anyway) and have something durable. All it takes is one day when your running late for a flight in a busy airport and the strap breaks and your stuff flies all over the terminal.

I guess in summary, I can't really afford it.......but yet I can't afford not to.

Thanks a lot for all your insight

Cheers,

Jack
