Looking for Ideas!

Post by mattas350 »

Hello fellow Avcanada folk:

I come to you today to ask for your humble advice  As some of you know, I am doing a Fast track Diploma in Business Admin right now in addition to my flight training (Upgrading PPL-A to a CPL-A, adding Flt Inst. rating, and MIFR as well) , and for the current class I am in right now we have as a final project been assigned a 12 minute oral presentation (The class is Business Writing and Presentations), The presentation can include Audio/Video/Powerpoint and can be on any subject, I would like to keep it a Aviation subject but other then that I do not know what in particular I was thinking of speaking on, so any ideas would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

M aka "Blog" :P

You can include aviation into your business presentation. For example, for my BUS417 Security Analysis course at SFU Business, I decided to write about Delta's bankruptcy. It was aviation related but also about the industry in a very business orientated manner. You could make a presentation based on market segmentation in the aviation industry, such as low cost vs legacy vs business (West Jet vs Air Canada vs EOS).

12 minutes is a very short presentation - I think your biggest problem will be brevity.

Most all of the things I can think of, you could never cover in less than 20 minutes, so I guess that's not much help.

You probably could do 12 mins as an ad-lib on the state of the industry, and pilot hiring etc...

You could read the complete check list for a Cessna 172 that some schools have.....if you read fast you should get it finished under the 12 minute limit. :smt003

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Do a presentation on the merits of an aviation diploma vs training in the real world. And be sure to mention how much of a better pilot you'll be with a diploma in your hand.

Oh that's a can of worms you don't want to touch with a 10 foot stick. Another idea is the different approach Boeing & Airbus is making toward future of aviation, ie why Boeing choose 787 and Airbus picked A380, just ignore the fact that Airbus try to plug the gap with the new A350.

Thank You all very much for the suggestions! They are very much appreciated :D It's going to be tough to choose one.

Co-Joe: I feel I have to step in here and mention a bit about my program, It's not a "Aviation Diploma" Far from it, It's a Diploma in Business Admin through Univ. of Victoria's Division of Continuing Studies, It's scheduled so that you are in Business Courses 2-3 weeks at a time, then you have 2-3 weeks free for flight training (At Either the Victoria Flying Club or Pacific Sky Aviation aka Juan Air who are both great operations), The only difference between the "Regular" Diploma in Business Admin program and the Aviation option one is scheduling, the regular program you are full time for a few months, for this program it's stretched over 9 months because of the flight training rotations. Also the business and aviation parts of the course do not over lap in content- business is all business, we take all the same courses, content in the courses and have all the same instructors as the "regular program" business admin program does, except we have 2 additional courses specifically related to Aviation Management and Airport Ops, so it's UVic's normal Diploma in Business Admin program but with breaks for flight training so it’s a little longer in length.

As for my Flight Training, I already hold a CPL-H and like I said above, I am upgrading my PPL-A to a CPL-A, Adding MIFR and Instructor Ratings, So I've been a little bit around the block so to speak (Not alot, but some, I am not bragging about my experience, so please don’t take it that way, I still know where my "spot on the totem pole" is :P and I don't pretend otherwise ).

I am proud to say I train with Pacific Sky Aviation (Juan Air) where they run one of the best shop's around, The Instructors, and M/X and Equipment are all top notch, and All of the instructors are also charter pilots for the company and keep busy flying the Navajo and Conquest.

Once again, Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, much appreciated! :D

You would think that any business admin program would accually teach the study of business and making money, or better yet the student simply realize via this teaching that a commercial MIFR ticket is the possibly the worst investment aside from a Lotto 649 ticket to minimize risk and maximize reward of monetary returns.

ps entirely satirical. do what you love, and happy learnings.
