Typical east coast answer....heaven forbid someone from BC ever complains about the wx without a typical response such as "OH YOU THINK THATS COLD? YOU DONT KNOW COLD!" Geeze.....

Who's complaining? Just pointing out gusts of 100kts. Not compairing or boasting or anything... just pointing out that the wind is here in winter-type power.

How old is a person who thinks that "my winter is worse than yours...' come on grow up.

That was some scarey wind last night and this morning. I don't know how to read those METARs, but I know this ...

I lost at least a dozen shingles, my six foot bird feeder ended up three houses away, half my fence blew down, the wind found a way to blow rain in through every crevice and I've got tiny puddles all over the house, the garage (full of CGAQW engine parts) is flooded, I learned that my gas stove does NOT work when there is no electricity, my children refused to eat fruit salad and I was up for three hours before I found a hot coffee ... only to arrive home and find the power back on.

Days like this I really miss having a man around the house.

Widow, presumably you have tossed out your lighter and all your matches - is that why you couldn't light the stove?

Winning?

At CYYT they have a 20 foot length of schooner chain attached to a pole, in place of a wind sock. When it is standing out straight, the locals have been known to observe "There's some jo-Jesus breeze off the tickle, Sar!"

Ummmmm ... would my gas stove have worked if I'd given ignition? I didn't think of that .... must have been the lack of coffee ... as for the smoking ... well ... I'll respond on the quitting thread!

Ease 'er down there... since you didn't direct your response, I'll take it personally.

I certainly wasn't discounting the nasty wx you western folks have had, but I was curious about what 'winter' had to do with it. Windy, yes. Winter? I don't think so.

Look at the bright side. You coulda got called to go out and drive your plane in that stuff, and it was NASTY out there today. If you was slogging around on a low level search grid, you woulda been thinking 'how much nicer it would be to be home, even with the power out and a fence to mend'.

It was rough all over BC and AB. No matter what altitude. Going in to YYJ we had at least 150 kts right out of the sw. Hopefully it calms down for tomorrow.

150kts eh? That would be quite the view from a 152 watching your destination get smaller out the front window. Starting to look a lot like last winter. Hopefully they built the roof at BC Place a little stronger this year.

It's not winter just because there's a bit of wind!

Winter=Cold=Snow, wind is a factor only in blowing more snow around

People that complain about winter at +8C have obviously never experienced it before.

A breezy windstorm it may have been, but it's not winter weather.

73,000 homes without power in the vancouver area....flooding....trees down....we sure as hell don't call it summer!

winter means Dec-March....like everywhere else in the northern hemisphere.....just because it doesn't snow doesn't mean it's not winter. You guys are brutal.....the o.p was just pointing out that the winter pacific storm season is here, like it comes every year on the west coast in the late fall and in the...wait for it.....wait for it....in the WINTER.

What else should we call it? Look beyond you're little northern holier-than-thou attitudes and accept that winter is merely a season. It means something other than snow for billions of people world wide. For some it means wet, for some it means cold, for some it means the storm season/hurricane season/monsoon season...for yet others it means 25C instead of 45C. Broaden your horizons people.

relax..i meant how is that METAR winter weather. wind storms in BC arent always associated with winter weather....temp was +8 in that metar anyways!

i dont think it has anything to do with us being conditioned to the north. im from the coast...ive only been up north for 11 months...im still on BC climatization..

heres hoping for a mild winter

Lets see - how can you tell winter has arrived on the south coast?? Well, for starters, Pasco has the whole apron cluttered with their fleet pointed into wind. They arent flying, just blocking off all the parking so no one else can get close to the south terminal. Poor airmanship and inconsiderate - why don't you try parking more aircraft toward one end of the ramp and leave a few spots for other aircraft that actually come and go? Especially for the people who have trouble making their way to and from aircraft.
