I was 32 when I started Sault College. Mature status was no big deal. Though I hardly acted mature when I was there. hehehe
I sent in my high school marks, and wrote the entrance test. I've heard rumours that they don't do the entrance test anymore- not sure if it's true or not. I'm sure another college diploma holds more weight than high school marks.
You should have no problem getting into either program, IMHO.
Feel free to pm me with any other questions.
Good luck, deflux!

Well Sault has told me that they don't accept any mature students without a high school diploma anymore. They do for all their other programs but not for aviation. I have 2 college diplomas and some university as well so I consider myself to be equivalent, apparently not according to them though.
Still waiting to hear from the admissions people at Confed. Wish me luck.

That's just farked. All that post secondary but your application isn't acceptable with a high school diploma. I guess common sense isn't so common anymore.deflux wrote:Well Sault has told me that they don't accept any mature students without a high school diploma anymore. That's a drag, deflux. It also sounds like the typical administrative BS that is rampant at Sault College.
The only way I could see you not getting in was if you had no college or university math or english credits to transfer.
If someone didn't have grade 12 math, Sault would be extremely difficult.
Hopefully Confed will let ya in. Good luck!

Re: Confed/Sault mature student status?
The admissions people at Confed got back to me and said that they will take my last college english credit mark (88) and my last college math mark (91) and rank me based on that..
Then they will give me a conditional offer of acceptance based on me passing the mature student test, which i've already written twice at other colleges.
I'm fairly sure that my 88 and 91 should be more than enough to get me in, as long as nothing else gets in the way.
Thanks for the help guys.

They should upgrade the system there like they did in Quebec. All college credits may count as a professional high school diploma. Therefore, if you choose to go to a community college, and not finish high school, in that case you still end up getting your high school diploma one way or another. All that you need is the basic language courses, at least till 10th grade from what I remember.
Because the sky is the limit...!

All you people missed the boat by being born to late, had you started flying when I did all you needed education wise was the ability to read and write and be able to do basic math.
Oh and you should be able to identify colors so you can read the instruments.

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

., that's all you really need today as well!
deflux, I went the same route as you, though for less tragic reasons. I have a degree, but didn't get high school. Total waste of time!

Yes Doc, you know that and I know that but the kids are victims of a system that is screwing them big time by leading them to believe that flying a fuc.in airplane requires advanced education.., that's all you really need today as well!
If education was that necessary to fly these things how come some of us can fly anything out there and understand their systems just as well or in some cases better than the graduates of colleges and universities?
The whole thing is run by flim flam artists and snake oil salesmen in the training industry.
I'm going to donate a lot of my time to a few kids who deserve a break and teach them the things they need to know.

Yah, ya dumb bastards trying to better yourselves through education whilst learning new skills. Not to mention all the fun you're going to have. Stupid kids and their stupid really awesome college experiences.Cat Driver wrote:Yes Doc, you know that and I know that but the kids are victims of a system that is screwing them big time by leading them to believe that flying a fuc.in airplane requires advanced education.

If you do, you should make sure they're underprivileged kids from the inner city, then you could make a TV show out of it and totally cash in.Cat Driver wrote:I'm going to donate a lot of my time to a few kids who deserve a break and teach them the things they need to know.

Neither Doc nor myself have said that education is not a plus, we are saying that flying an airplane does not require a college degree, in fact grade eight is sufficient.Yah, ya dumb bastards trying to better yourselves through education whilst learning new skills. You can bet your ass I will look for those who are having difficulty affording to pay for training. If you do, you should make sure they're underprivileged kids from the inner city,
Cashing in is not why I will do it.
then you could make a TV show out of it and totally cash in.
I have done enough flying for the TV industry to last me for two more life times.

When I think back on all the crap I've learned in high school
It's a wonder I can think at all
Though my lack of education hasn't hurt me much
I can read the writings on the walls...
