Altair
Rumor has it that they were caught doing aerobatics in their 172's
That explains something I heard from TC when they audited me for the OC.Rumor has it that they were caught doing aerobatics in their 172's
I was told they would not tolerate aerobatics in a non aerobatic aeroplane, I thought it was a jab at me...
I have been under TC's annoyance because I taught aerobatics in an aerobatic aircraft with an aerobatic instructor rating... But the school did not put aerobatics on their OC even though they promoted it on their website!
In the UK aerobatics is almost a part of normal flying! Brits think nothing of it, and the French, mais c'est normale apres une verre du vin!
But Canada has more regulations than many places.
As for Cessna 172's... The 150 and 152 are very strong and a barrel roll will do no harm. and +4.4 -1.76 G limits will allow all normal aerobatic manoeuvres provided they don't go wrong.
It is still against the aircraft certification to do aerobatics however unless the aeroplane is a Cessna Aerobat.
If someone did aerobatics in a Cessna 150/152 I might be annoyed, but I wouldn't expect the aeroplane to suffer an overstress condition.
In a Cessna 172 however the story is different. There just is not the reserve of strength in the 172 that the smaller 150 has.
The airframe is flexible and you are likely to break the windscreen in some manoeuvres.
I don't like the Cessna 172, it's a bus, like driving a minivan! Why would you ever want to turn such an awful contraption upside down?
I operated Rollason Condors for many years, this aeroplane wanted desperately to do aerobatics, it was as sensitive as a Spitfire and incredibly strong with a thick timber spar.
But it as not certified aerobatic... I got a T67 and a Stampe, and had access to a Chipmunk too for the fun stuff...
You like aerobatics? I get you an aerobatic aeroplane.
In England it's easy, in Canada???
One day in the Skyhawk cafe someone was relating a flight they did in an Arrow over Mount Baker... Somehow aerobatics cropped up and one fellow quelled it... But the lady there who had been in the back seat said excitedly how much she had enjoyed the barrel rolls as they descended...
I don't care who you are, don't do it with people in the back seat!
I remember a Rallye 150ST with a polyhedral wing... It had been looped several times 4 up... Stupid!

I am looking for some information on the closing down of this FTU.
PM me and it will be held in strict confidence,

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

that sucks! I'll have to find a new rental when I get the urge to head on up in a Cessna again.
