Sunwing?

Post by CD1 »

Who is Sunwing, I hear all this talk about them. They have a huge route map but how many planes do they have? Are they apart of WJ? They are Canadian based? I would like the run down.

Thx

Simply put it is a start-up of another charter airline to service vacation destinations. Only started up like a little over a year ago and began operations in Toronto. Basically the same business plan as Air Transat, Canjet and the like. My information is only based on press releases and second hand knowledge. I have no idea who are the investors, prime management, or any real worth-while information that you are probably looking for. Sorry.

Sunwing Airlines is an offshoot of Sunwing Vacations / Red Seal Tours. The tour operation has been around longer than the airline. Are they anything close to Transat? - NO. Transat is a billion dollar operation of which the "airline" plays but a small part.

If you were to compare the "airline" components of Transat and Sunwing you will notice that Sunwing has been agressively expanding. If Transat were to bring all the "contract flying" that WJ and CJ does for them they would have a much larger air operation. Not sure if they would be as profitable though.

Will the airline side be around as long as Transat's ... who knows?

Sunwing is a rapidly expanding company. They started over two years ago and are now the largest in Ontario for vacation sales.

Yes sunwing and sunwing/red seal vacations are associated. sunwing airlines does not have any associations with other airlines (with one exception). while the airline hasn't been around for too long the vacations side has been around for approximately 20 years.

this company unlike flair or canjet generates it's own business and therefore will be around for a long time to come. the founder and owner of sunwing definitely knows what he's doing, since he's been in the vacations business for a long time and has been involved with previous canadian airline operations before.

if you do want to know about sunwing (or any operation that is) it's always good to go on the company website and if that doesn't answer your question than make some calls.

as far as doc's comment about shopping channel etc., it'd be best if he leaves sales and marketing strategies to other people. as far as i'm concerened i don't know if the shopping channel works, but if nothing else it's exposure.

Do they still require a training bond? Is the talk of a calgary base come to anything? What is the sked like? Is there a profit sharing deal? I hear 60 start FO with fat carrot (2 year upgrade) being dangled, what's the rest of the pay scale like?
Thanks much
