can i swap my profit sharing for village sharing? 10% of that village population is enough people for me to live out my dreams of a sun-god worshiping, caligulaian utopia on an island in georgian bay.Sulako wrote:As a charitable alternative to corporate holiday gifts this year, our company donated enough money to install clean water wells in a half-dozen villages in Kenya, through the Daiga Water Project, providing clean, safe and reliable water to 6,483 people. Our gift will provide equipment, well parts and an engineer for drilling a deep-bore hole. Villagers will receive full training in well maintenance to ensure that their well stays in full working order. They will also provide us with regular updates as to the status of the project, so we can see how the wells are transforming lives.
Oh, and we also got profit sharing, which will come close to 10k.

I got nothing from my company.
That's still better than a poke in the eye.
Merry Christmas to all.

I was lucky, I work for me, so I bought me a new Suzuki SX4 fully loaded including turbo auto suck for those long solo drives.
The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

This year I got $30 Tim Horton's food stamps & no work party......last year for a differnt employer got 1.5 months wages & a rock'n work party...now THAT was a Christmas BonusI get a $25 gift certificate for the grocery store in town.... aka food stamps! And I'm not kidding here!
What a slap in the face...

Re: Christmas bonus's
I got a card, it looks insignificant now that I read some of these other posts, guess it could be worse, at least the card was printed on recycled paper.

Re: Christmas bonus's
anyone who has worked with me at this company will know what i am talking about:
one year - a travel mug
another year - a prison sweatshirt
next - a quarter in a block of plastic
and another year - a plastic airplane model
Xmas bonuses are not to be expected... i once read only 17% of CDN companies give bonuses... and as an employer, what do you give that employee that has been a lazy ass all year? Timmy's gift cards? (ooh - sorry jwfly!!..ha ha)
i think the other 364 days of the year should speak volumes versus one day...
(Although cold hard cash is pilot talk for Christmas spirit! HA!!)
Very Merry everyone!!

Re: Christmas bonus's
Hope all of the fine folks at Borek enjoyed their shitty Christmas Cards. Pretty generous considering 90% of the pilots that work there are 7000 miles away from their families at this time of year
I enjoyed a great Christmas day with my family and could actually afford to buy everyone presents this year with the generous bonus from my new boss. Regardless Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
P.S. those cards make a great fire when you are freezing ass of in your tent in Antarctica.

Re: Christmas bonus's
We got $50 gift cards from an online steak company.
What the pilots did with the cards showed management what the true meaning of Christmas is.
(note: I work in the US and this an American company
)
About 8 months ago one of our pilots got cancer and went off on Long term disability getting 60% of his former wages.
Our company management
calculated that since he did not work more then 45 days in a 3 month period he was no longer considered a full time employee and therefore not entitled to company health care benefits. So they kicked him off and sent him to pay for his family health insurance by himself. So he is left with $2200 per month gross income, a wife who does not work and a 4 year old daughter, and his cancer. His health insurance goes from $300 per month to $1600 per month thanks to the company
. This gives his family $600 a month to live on. The pilot union hired a lawyer to look into it for him and we were all surprised to find out that the company's actions were legal but just highly immoral.
Well, the pilots all got together and started to send him all of our Christmas gift cards as well as personal cheques and any other perks that we we receive from the FBO's. The union leadership asked the 600 pilots to send him the gift cards plus $10 each. Well the pilots each sent him and his family a lot more then $10 each and the gift cards.
He just posted a thank you letter on our union web site about how this was looking to be the worst Christmas that his family was going to face to one where he and his family experience the true meaning of Christmas thanks to his fellow pilots.
P.S. After hearing this be happy that you live in a country with Universal health care. For all of its faults and long line at least you you will not have a greedy corporation
decide if you or your family will receive medical care.
