Re: PAG sell's Dash 8"s
I always assumed it stood for Perimeter Airlines Group. Generally, though, it's used to refer to Perimeter.
Any confirmation of this??
Why a sad time of year? With time on type and a Dash type rating, there's literally jobs everywhere - many of them in much warmer locales than YWG in mid-winter..

Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: PAG sell's Dash 8"s
Well going from Perimeter there is very little chance that one would be any worse off.
It's a great endorsement and I wish the displaced crews better working conditions going forward.

Re: PAG sell's Dash 8"s
This is not true at all.
I glad to inform you that my pilots have not called me to say "holy cow is this true?" They are a lot smarter than believing the garbage rumours that arise sometimes on this website. If it was true, my pilots would be the first to know and would not have to find out on this forum.
For the sake of everyone out there, the 2 dash 8s that Perimeter own are working out great, they are busy, and operationally are the best aircraft out there doing the job we need them to do. One dash is going for a "C" check Jan 14, so you won't see it around for a few weeks. (Please don't assume it is sold!)
I heard today that wtf_over got run over by a reindeer walking home from his Gramma's house. Sad time of the year for that!

Re: PAG sell's Dash 8"s
It’s true. Perimeter have sold the Dash 8’s and have purchased 2 Lear 35A’s with medivac interiors and an option on a third (not sure but possibly CGAA aircraft). I guess international medivacs where the big money is. The Dash 8 pilots were told they will get first pick at the Lear jobs. Congratulations on Perimeter being named carrier of the year (2007) by the Association of North American Air Ambulances.

Don't forget to extend congratulations as well to the leadership of Manitoba's northern bands, whose disastrous management of their people's affairs has created the demand for those non-stop medevac flights CYWG-CYIV, CYWG-CYST, CYWG-CYRS, etc.Guest295 wrote:It’s true. It is said that a Boeing 737 takes off or lands every 30 seconds around the world.
The same can also be said of Perimeter's medevacs.
Sure is a great use of our tax dollars.

Re: PAG sell's Dash 8"s
Well people, not being management, and being someone who knows everything (i'm serious here, i'm good shit) I have no idea who came up with this or why (ok, I have an idea why...) but I have a hard time believing this one.
The two dash 8's this weekend (however slow they may be) moved about 300 people in 2 and a half days. Probably the busiest aircraft in Manitoba in that time in terms of revenue moved.
The last time I was flying to YST in that thing and had anything less then a money making load was, well... never. I didnt know that many people lived up there.
As for YIV, definately not as busy as YST, but when the plane sips slightly more gas than a 1900, you dont need much to make some dough. But when you put 5000 pounds of freight in the back and the cabin, you still do pretty well.
Happy Holidays
(Yes TR, it is really me, no one logged in under my name and posted this...if it is true though, can i fly the lear? )

Only Air Canada takes profitable runs/ operations and shuts them down.
Maybe they will trade both D8's for a PC-12 (it has like 10 landing lights so you think it's a real plane)
I heard they are selling the D8's and switching to brand new DHC-6-400's on floats and basing them on the red river so they can drop off lodge passengers on the way to YST and YIV. It's not economically feasible but the Ops manager has a picture of them on his wall so that's what's happening.
PS Go back to band camp and your warm apple pie

Re: PAG sell's Dash 8"s
I hope it is not true for the sake of the pilots on the Dash. I have had the pleasure of meeting most of them and they all seem like a great bunch. On the other hand, suggesting that the operating cost of a Dash is only slightly more than a 1900D I think is off the mark. I don't know a tonn about the Dash, nor do I pretend too, but I know for a fact that fuel burn are much higher. (1900D 700 - 800lbs per hr/Dash 8 1200lbs per hr+). Engines, props, and the majority of components much more expensive plus the higher wages and a third crew member. I'd imagine insurance, landing fees etc are more as well.
My 2 cents.
My 2 cents.

Re: PAG sell's Dash 8"s
Here's two more cents...
1200 pounds an hour is the high end... usually less than that, unless it is very cold (or low).
But when it burns less than twice a metro 2, but takes 3 metro 2 passenger loads, and a metro 3 freighter load all at once, it certainly makes a ton of profit when it is full.
As far as wage goes, I have forfeited my salary for all the chips and pop I can handle on a 293 mile leg. I figure I can eat 30K worth of that junk in a 12 month span.
If you have met most of us, I would imagine you are one of the 1900 drivers in the YIV region. Same goes to you guys, great bunch of people, all the best to you guys in the new year.

Oh, and stay the hell away from YST

What'll that do to your physique? Or your index?Captain Crunch wrote: As far as wage goes, I have forfeited my salary for all the chips and pop I can handle on a 293 mile leg. I figure I can eat 30K worth of that junk in a 12 month span.
Everything comes in threes....
Re: PAG sell's Dash 8"s
I'm pretty sure I caused as much headache as I could for the dash crews at YST
You guys were great. Merry Christmas to ya and keep up the great spirits and good work.

Re: PAG sell's Dash 8"s
captain crunch, unless you have the bulk head moved pretty much all the way up how do you put 5000lbs in a cargo bay that only holds 2000lbs?

Re: PAG sell's Dash 8"s
our bulkhead is set to 29 seats, which allows for 3350 pounds in the back, along with up to 8 seat packs at 330 pounds each, makes a grand total of 5990 pounds of freight and still hold 9 passengers.
