They hired too many this year, coupled with mismanagement (again), have begun the layoffs!
Opened a couple new destinations...Penticton, Calgary and Kamloops on it's way. New destinations, broken aircraft, layoffs...company is in a spiral dive.
To answer the question... pay scale is on a day rate plus hourly. Works out to about $250 per day for captains. You work about 15 days per month. The entire pay structure is currently under review. (The managers are probably trying to find a way to lower the pilot pay, but have them work harder like loading aiplanes...oh wait...that is already happening.)

Ouch - that sucks. How many are out on the curb?
At least with the industry now you guys will get something in a hurry I am sure. If you're just looking for something for the winter - things are ramping up in Alberta now... mind you a winter of skiing on EI never hurt anyone - probably would be good for you.

Ok, there have been 4 'layoffs' due to seasonal requirments. In the past, if 30 were hired for a summer, 25 would be laid off due to seasonal needs. Now 4 of the 30 hired have been let go for the winter.
Last winter, a friend of mine was 'laid off for the winter' and had full time work all winter because he was around.
The post a few above mine makes me laugh. Broken planes? sure whose don't break. People hear about it because they are taken off line and fixed. Things aren't perfect, but I'd be more worried about the company who's planes are never taken offline for maintenance.
The salary talks are pilot initiated, the owners recognized that some captains weren't happy about the levels their paychecks can fluctuate (depending on length of days worked) so they offered to meet with a group from the pilots side and discuss other options.

Yup, the wage negotiations were initiated by the pilots. not just the captains but the FOs as well. Seems like an agreement has been reached which will change the pay structure to an hourly rate (per flight hour) with a guaranteed minimum every month. It's gonna work out to a slight pay increase across the board but the monthly guarantee is what everyone was after. To answer previous post. Almost all the turboprop guys are based in YVR. There are lots of people who commute from the island. Seems like a pain in the ass to me, but those who do it don't seem to mind

Average house price YVR ~$1Million, average house price YYJ ~$500KThere are lots of people who commute from the island. Seems like a pain in the ass to me, but those who do it don't seem to mind
Half a mill will buy a heck of a lot of pain-in-the-ass factor...
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

but then the average house price in CYQX is probably around $60,000 (if that) so why doesn't everyone move to Newfoundland?North Shore wrote:Average house price YVR ~$1Million, average house price YYJ ~$500KThere are lots of people who commute from the island. Captain 152, where on earth are you getting your information? Nothing has been decided upon, and no deal has been reached! They haven't even proposed one yet.
The closest they've come is to discuss a credit based system which gaurantees you a certian wage, but if you look at the structure of it as per the email, you'll see you will make the same amount of money but will work harder for it.

I'm not captain 152 but are you looking for updates on pay? Cause it seemed like you were in the loop when you posted this

Yes Quicksilver, I do have a bit of information and am 'in the loop' but am also always open to hearing opinions of others and hear if they have any different info.
Actually, quite a number of pilots are not happy with the new agreement, particularily the commuters with regards to the January schedule. Just wondering if 152 heard anything different.

Yeah I've heard a couple of people have some pretty strange schedules for January. However I believe the pay change doesn't have anything to do with the way they changed doing the schedules. Regardless of the pay changes the electronic scheduling process was going to be put in place. That is how I understood it anyway. I'm sure it will take a couple months for all of the kinks to be ironed out of the new sked process. On another note January is the first month since last spring that I've had a 3 and 3 schedule. Do you know if the 1900 guys are on the electronic schedule process yet? I kind of remember hearing they weren't.
Re: PASCO
Auto4...don't have a clue but can find out for you if you like. They are once again a bit worried about finding float guys I hear. They have a few core guys that are there every year but have lost a couple too.
The 1900 guys are on the credit system now, but it isn't reflected on the schedule yet. Not sure why.

Do the float guys make more than the IFR guys?
