central america
Hi,
just wondering if there is work in central america for lower time pilots? I have been down there before and loved it, would like to move back. Do they accept canadian licenses or would I have to convert them to meet U.S. standards or do some of these countries have there own licensing? Thanks, any info would be great!

Hello
Basically you need an ICAO license, be citizen from a Central America country and speak spanish, regarding hours requirements minimum is 250 hours, multi-ifr. You go from Cessna 150 to Boeing 737-800 on that part of the world!
I hope it helps

You don't have to know spanish to enter. They will pay for your spanish classes if you are foreign.Hello

A friend of mine is close friends with the head of HR @ COPA Airlines down in Panama. He got hired at the age of 19 flying 73G's for Copa. He's a F/O right now doing his ATPL. All paid for.
What are your hours? I will be more than glad to pass on your resume to him and he will directly give it to the HR hiring department.
Good Luck !
Re: central america
Simply not true. Unless your "friend" is a Panamanian national he cannot work for COPA. All pilots in Panama have to join the national pilot union from which COPA may hire from. To join the union you must be a Panamanian national or have your residency. COPA is also a sinking ship as with work conditions many of their pilots are leaving for the better paying positions in Asia. Moral is not good there... great country though, just be careful as the women are very fertile.wxnut wrote:You don't have to know spanish to enter. Re: central america
I should have clarified. Different rules for expat Captains then for new hire, non-type rated, First Officers looking to get on a EMJ190 or 73NG. Yes, they have expats but they are generally type rated Captains that they parachute in.
