Hey there are more then just 2 of you in the crew

Post by Just another driver »

Happy new years all. Just a friendly reminder that there are 3 (sometimes 4) of you in the crew. and when your getting hungery or craving a caffine fix, maybe the FA(s) are to.
My girlfriend is an FA at Jazz, numerous times she has told me how she was stuck on the RJ without time to go grab a bite in a 12 hour period due to the quick turns. Meanwhile the pilots are getting extra crew meals and not offering her one, or one will disappear for a bit and return with coffee and food, but didn't even ask if they could get her anything. This is something she does for the crew without fail.
It's a small thing that goes a long way.

End of rant. Go back to your hangovers. :smt078

She gained a few pounds so the pilots decided to stop feeding her.

I agree! A quick "I'm going in to grab a cup of coffee. Seeing as how you're soooooooo bitchy today, can I run in and get you a couple of pads?" goes a long way to maintaining respect amongst everyone.

So because pilot crew meals were negotiated in a collective agreement, the hungry FA feels that she should be fed from something that ALPA negotiated into a contract? Yes, the occasional "would you like a coffee or muffin" is a nice gesture, but how can that be expected from a First Officer that makes 37k? If she is that hard up, pack a friggin lunch or call a union rep to make sure her bloodsugar doesnt get too low.

Whats next? Feeding the agents, rampies and fuelers?

I'm pretty generous with my crew but sometimes FA's look at me as an ATM on quick turns. On occasion if I come back with coffee's for the pointy end its sometimes to avoid getting milked for another 10 bucks. Of course, we have 4-5 FA's and its easy enough for them to send one of their own. Being a former Jazzer from five years ago I can also tell you that I was ripped off for cabin meals many times (back when they served them) by hungry FA's that wouldn't share what was left.

If you did work with me at least you can be sure that you will be fed and not be a catering service for the back! It's called being an adult. You might get hungry during your 13 hour duty day. How will you plan for it?

Don't FA's get per diems? I thaught per diems were to BUY food, not mooch off the pilots.

I think some of you are missing the point of this thread. It's not to feed your crew, hand over your crew meals and so on, but if there is an extra crew meal or two, ask if they want it before you toss it. Or if you’re going to Tims, just a quick "do you want anything" and get some cash from them is very much appreciated.
A small gesture - and a free one, goes a long way.
Besides this does not apply to most crews as most are awesome to there FA’s. Also most pairings aren’t organized in such a way that there stuck on the plane all day. But on those really long days with min turns and little time to leave the plane, just remember the FA’s are in need of sustenance as you are.
Really it's about common courtesy.

I guess if you're hungry and tired, so are they. Makes sense.

If the F/A needs sustenance then she/he should go out and get their sustenance as we would. If the flight has to be delayed because there happens to be insufficient time to get the sustenance (say due to IROPS delays) then so be it. Frankly the "meals" or more correctly "snacks" (as the Company would prefer us to refer to them as) are in my opinion a last resort. The F/A's can have mine as far as I am concerned, and I have offered it on more than one occasion only to be turned down.

Of course, we all wouldn't be having this discussion if the F/A was a smokin' young babe.
