Just saw a commercial for Discovery Channel's "Jetstream". Apparently they documented the fighter training of some new CAF 410 sqn. guys. Might be interesting, check it out...www.jetstreamonline.ca

Supposed to be 9 months of their training over the course of the series. Might give some insight to civvies considering joining the CF with aspirations of being an 18 Driver. It should answer some questions!

I'm looking forward to taping it. 8 part series starting Jan 9th.

Having a standard that pilots lose their licence after making a mistake despite doing no harm to aircraft or passengers means soon you needn't worry about a pilot surplus or pilots offering to fly for free. Where do you get your experience from?

Wow...is it really that hard to get into the CF-18 program? At the beginning, they said that those rookies were hand picked out of thousands?

Dam...could of gotten an American citizenship before I was 18! :( Could of had better chances of flying something cool with the navy, air force or even marines.....Dam!

It is a long road with many opportunities to wash out or at the very least make life more difficult for yourself. Like you saw last night with the guy struggling with the centrifuge.

I would say one of the biggest hurdles at the moment is actually getting into the CF as a pilot, after that you need to impress at Moose Jaw and keep that level of performance up through the end of 410 which GP can probably give you an accurate number but its around 2-3 years of being on course from start of Moose Jaw and delivering top of class performance every day.

Cheers

"Right-you-are, Kenny!"

...and typically that's 2 to 3 years after a pilot completes his or her Military College or equivalent University degree, basic flying training & officer training.

The earliest age a person could expect to become a fighter pilot in the CF, under the current training regime, is 26 years old.

Wow!!! That's some lucky pilot!!! What program did he enroll under? Interesting...

Is it the one where you don't have to have a degree in-hand, but have to work towards one on your own time?

Thats why I hate shows like these makes me say that too but I also say they had their chance with me. Stupid bee sting allergy. I went during a time when pilots were not needed but now they are.....
