2 Map reading Questions

1. The MEF on a VTA/VNC is the highest obstacle in that quadrant. How much higher then the highest obstacle is it? for example...113


2. When you see an anchor that means a water runway. BUT what is the differenc between the anchor & the anchor with a circle around it?

nope it doesn't....for MEF it says that it's the highest obstable in the quadrant but not how much higher then that obstacle it is. & as for the anchor, its ambiguous at best

Alright, I've got one here that says "MEF indicates the highest terrain elevation plus 328 feet*(100 meters) OR the highest known obstruction, whichever is higher. *200 feet over US territory". All the best...

Thats what I thought it was....was suprised that the VNC didn't say that though.....now all I need to know is that anchor question. & for that I have NO idea. What I always thought they meant cant be right because I have found 2 airports that would be an exception to that rule.

If you look on the right hand side of the legend it has water under the heading "With Services" and then just the anchor under Other Aerodromes.

but what services do they mean? They have anchors with no circles around 2 airports that have a bunch of services....one of which has a tower, 100LL, docks, a few AMEs atleast one AMO...even jet fuel. & then they have some anchors with cirles that have maybe a dock at the most

That is what the CFS is for. Perhaps a lot of the services are private?

nope not private. the 2 airports I'm talk'n about that seem to counterdict the "services" idea (which for years I thought was the reason for the circle) are Pit Meadows & Victoria Harbor (BC)

I agree that if you are looking at a map more than a few years old, it does mention the 100 metre reference. On the current maps it is not specific about the height above terrain, but the same numbers still apply, (look at an old map and a new one of the same area and the same numbers will be in the same cooresponding quadrants.)

btw guys my main question is The anchor thing.....this one I knew but want'd to confirm...the other one I don't know, becuase what I use to think (the circle means it has services) seems to be incorect as there are airports that seems to have services but don't have the circle & then there are airports that don't seem to have any services & have the circle

Services at the dock... Pitt Meadows has a dock and a ramp but for fuel you need to get the plane out of the water!

So if there is a circle it has fuel @ the dock...what other services may it include (for the circle)?...I guess basicly just the fuel thing eh?

Ok -- so you're on floats and you can land anywhere (just about) there is water. But, you need to flight plan your trip so you can get fuel, oil, mechanic, rental car just like at a land aerodrome. So what do you do?

Some places have their waterdrome licensed so that it can be published in the waterdrome supplement. Usually this is done to bring in some business. So, i look for the symbols that you have mentioned and i can contact them through the book to make sure that they will be there when i need services.

Some places have no services, just a dock. Usually this is at a town where someone takes care of the dock, they have no aviation specific services, but they do have a town.

but Mission would?

Or all 3 would be in it but mission would be the only one with anything in the services section....even though it's the smallest one

If there is an anchor on the chart, it is in the book. Services (or lack of) and hazards will be listed as in the CFS.
