C-FMOM, RCMP spy plane?

Post by Rudy »

What's up with this guy in the C-210 buzzing around Thunder Bay the past few days reeking havoc with arrivals and departures? I've heard rumors of it being the RCMP conducting surveillance. The TC register says the federal government is the owner. When he ignored some ATC intructions the other day he said it was because he has to listen to another 3 frequencies at once. Hope I don't get tasered for posting this.

Thanks for the pic. The remarks say it is RCMP. Anyone know what they're up to?

There was an aircraft like this (perhaps even 2) orbiting overhead my end of Toronto the day before the police and RCMP swooped in to arrest all those "terrorists" a few years ago. They too were orbiting in a very strange location within the terminal airspace, except I couldn't find them on the frequencies.

To quote a previous thread (if I recall correctly).... remember, Mom's always watching!

We are so superior to the Americans...we can do it with single reciprocating 60 year old technology fixed gear light planes.

And they need Global Hawk, Predator, Pegasus, U-2, J-STAR, E-8C, and EP-3 (just to name a few U.S. UAV's and aircraft, which probably includes a few 210's)

They have a Cessna 210 in Regina also.

They have a Caravan with a few cameras and IR equipment mounted underneath the tail. Last time I saw it was in Vancouver a few years ago. Carries a whole surveilance crew in the back to operate the gear. Coolest Caravan I've seen.

They should try flying in one of the Sundance hot air balloons. The locations are hardly secret if you know the area well enough!

My sources tell me it is a spy plane that is able to listen in on wireless (read corldess) telephones. This is a particularily powerful tool for the police because the law is at best vague on this type of informatin sharing. When Phones are tapped, Warrants are required, Since wireless phone signals leave the property on which they were created a warrant is not required in all situations. basically gives the police complete licence to listen to whatever is transmited over cordless phones at their discetion, Powerful tool, and scary at the same time. I have respect for the officers of the law however checks and balances are in place to protect the public and they should be managed and obeyed instead of avoided as in this loop hole. I am all for anti-terrorism but I think we are entering a little more into a police state every day without the public knowing. One only needs to look at Ontarios new street racing laws to see this, A warning flag should go up with anyone who knows the details in regards to complete lack of recourse and the absolute power of officers in this law.

I am all for the public knowing what is happening in their country, Good for AvCanada and all who posted for asking questions.

Regards

Clearly a case of following the letter of the law and not the spirit. If they can't listen to phones with wires they shouldn't be listening to phones without them.

MOM is an RCMP plane. Flies into Buttonville quite often. They were responsible for the big drug raids outside of Kapuskasing a few years ago. Found some grow ops on the side of the road between Cochrane and Kapuskasing.

Think the machine is based in Ottawa but it goes everywhere.

Another 210R (C-GTCT) is based in CYHU, goes out from time to time, also heavily equipped with antennas and loaded aft of the pilot seat.

Register says RCMP has 4 210R's, plus 3 208's and even a half dozen 206's.

My spin on this is that we don't live in the same level of fear and skepticism as our american counterparts do. Some refer to this as freedom...

I think it just has an I/R camera on it. I think they use it for looking for dope operations and some border stuff. I don't recall seeing any strange antenna's on it.

Getting back to the first post, maybe the RCMP should employ two pilots to operate that aircraft if one can't manage the frequencies/work load. It'ld be pretty stupid for them to fly straight into someone else for lack of being on the appropriate freq.

What you are looking at on the bottom is part of a precise gps tracking system. They place a small tracking device on a person, vehicle etc. the antenas pick up the single and provide a precise location. Regular GPS tracking devices such as the ones found in modern cell phones are not accurate enough to ensure that police bust into the correct motel room.
