Absolutely Valcore. They are the new Navair.

And nobody's making even close to $70 a year! That's why the pay structure was changed because they told you under the last matrix that you COULD make $70,000 but most came in around $55,000. I'm sure under the new system, you'll probably be able to turn that $55 into $60 but at the expense of a way worse schedule, and by working a couple more days a month. So is this a pay increase? NOPE!

Oh, this should be good....I suspect, however, that there is a difference in the definition of 'living' here. But do tell us, quicksilver..

I'll define "living"....It's all the pilots living in one shitty run down house in Richmond so they can afford the rent and beer.

Welcome to life as a Pasco pilot!
Why not move on to greener pastures then? I mean, if life is so shitty, there must be better jobs out there. It's great to complain, but do you have any ideas that would make you happy there? I've been in a union (Teamsters and Operating Engineers) and they have there down sides too. If you think that is a magic pill I think you are sadly mistaken.

Funny you mention Navair. It seems to me that some of the best pilots we have came from there. They all seem to have superb judgement and good work ethic.

Want a better schedule? Try two years seniority and not being bitchy to your dispatcher. I don't know many airlines where the newest pilots get the best schedules. At the current rate the airlines are hiring two years gets you a pretty decent seniority number.

I keep running into pilots with some real attitude. They have started since the job market started on the upswing. Anybody else notice this? They won't throw bags, think they should automatically be a captain because they have 2000 hours etc. Totally disrespectful of the hard work the people have put in before them to get the jobs they feel entitled to. There are parts of the "old school" that people shouldn't model themselves after; work ethic is something that seems to be lost on so many of the newest pilots.

I live on two acres in a log house that is full of beer BTW.

The ex-Navair guys are the best! We rock! I'm not refering to the guys, I'm talking about the company! And Navair had accidents and is no longer around, this is the path Pasco is on.

From your post, you're saying that companies should pay crap and expect you to load bags. This is what is wrong with the industry! Do you have no self respect! How hard did you work to get to where you are now...do you not think you deserve a bit higher wage and to be treated properly!

And I love the coment about not being bitch to your dispatcher! In other words you're saying that if you want a fair schedule or to be treated with respect, you should suck up to management and stick your nose up their asses like they want you to!

Nice! Yup...I stand corrected...what a wonderful company!

But I'm not getting paid "crap". Yeah, I'm gonna get out of my plane and throw bags if I have too. I don't see anything wrong with that. And one more time: I feel like I'm treated pretty well.

Before you rag on dispatch sit in their seat for a day. I'm not saying kiss asses either just be polite.

How do you suggest we make it better 1900 guy? How about something constructive? So far you're just bitching.

Do you really need me to break this down for you? How to live on $70,000 a year? How about this, the average income of a economic family (two people, married, common law, or blood related sharing a common dwelling) in canada is less than $65,000 a year. Maybe you need to ask the average Canadian how they all manage to live off of less than $70K a year. I make MUCH less than $70K a year, I live in a nice apartment close to the beach, drive a reliable car, pay all my bills, never go hungry, always have beer and food in my fridge, go out with friends, take vacations, and do this on my own. So north shore, if you need a budget drawn up for you so you can live off of $70K a year then send me a pm, I'd be more than happy to help.

This is the last I'll post on this thread, because it's a little out of hand, you can't change the mind of people who are convinced otherwise. I enjoy working for pasco, I like the flying, the people, the culture, the machines. That might just be me though, I also feel that for the work I do I am accurately rewarded with my wage. I have friends that work for other turbo prop operators in vancouver and I know that I make more. Plus I'm happy, which is not the case for many of these other friends of mine.

All I can say is if you are so disgruntled with where ever you're working then leave. It's not a secret that the industry is booming right now, wouldn't be too tough to find a job. If you don't leave, then stop crying because you are choosing to work where you are sooo very very unhappy.

Just my 2C

PS. Well said Dog, on all accounts.

Hey Dog,

If you ever decide you want to make some real money and come to helicopters, give me a call, I'll make sure you get a job. Well said. There's a job to be done, and you have to do your bit, spending all your time in front of the mirror getting the hair gelled just right isn't the way it works, regardless of who you work for.

stl

PS, where you living?

I live in Qualicum Beach: home to the newly wed and the nearly dead.

I'm not allowed to fly helicopters. We've lost more friends to helicopters than floatplanes. The wife likes that I fly boring stuff now.

Doesn't mean I would turn down a ride though! :smt040

Ok, quick, now try buying that apartment, or, even better, a house. Perhaps get married and have a kid, or two... start thinking about education costs, RRSPs and retirement, and so on. All of a sudden, $70k looks a lot smaller.

I suspect, however, that my situation lines up approximately the same as xsbanks' and that it is somewhat different than yours - so perhaps we come at this from different viewpoints.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to work at PASCO, being a westcoaster and all, and, I believe that I'm qualified to work there; however, I think that it's time to buckle into the seat that I have for a while, as things (IMHO, of course) are about to get a lot tougher..

Just curious, I'm a retire from the left seat. Have been for about 5 years. I flew union for 20 years and was able to relax with a very good pention. I find it hard to believe that people would think this a bad thing. Can anybody shed some light on this for me. After all, my friends at conair are very happy with thier union.
