Profit sharing is unrelated and completely separate from the stockprice, and the employee stock purchase plan. Or the stock options for the pilots, for that matter.

I'm sure that when this law suit blows over...like a bad fart...and it will.
All the stock that we have purchased at this low price provided by Air Cananda's propoganda machine. will make a whole new gereration of MILLIONAIRES
. Yes thats what I said. The only way that AC will defeat us is to break our spirit. A low stock price definatly puts a kink in our paycheques for a while. That is the purpose of this lawsuit.
Lately the judge just told AC in court that they will need a whole lot more in court than what they have.
i'm lookin' forward to the 3rd quarter...there will be a profit sharing cheque $$$$ and there will be a rebound in the stock price. And all of us will be smilin
.
And yes I drink buckets of Kool Aid.. so flame away

With Westjet's stock continuing to drop, do you think employees will be happy with low wages without the large profit sharing?
I'd be lying if I said nobody is concerned about the drop in stock price. However, we are going to see WJA stock probably sink below the $10 mark before we see any significant rise. This winter is going to be probably the worst in Westjet's history simply because of domestic capacity. We are on the right track by branching out into transborder and charter markets but I don't think we have what it takes to keep our consecutive quarterly profit streak alive. However, I do have faith in our business plan and I do have faith in the long-term viability of Westjet. Short term pain for long term gain, I say.

Funny, isn't that what the Canadian Government has been trying to tell us about the value of the Canadian Dollar?LT wrote:

Low stock prices are only good if you are buying on the open market. If you've been given options that will now cost you more to exercise than the current price, and those options made up a good part of your compensation package, then low stock prices hit you square in the wallet.
Now, here is the question?
Just my opinion, but by reading this I have already gained that because they run into rough times for once, everyone seems to think that the company is screwed. I mean come on.
I personally would still take WJ over any other company, with or without profit sharing and stock options.
My opinion, any others

I don't think anybody believes that WJ is in any sort of financial trouble. Rather, it's simply not too likely they are going to maintain their rapid growth, continue to dilute their share pool with employee share purchase and options plans, and maintain ever climbing stock prices. Once no longer able to partially pay employees with stock to subsidize relatively low wages, what happens to their current pro-company/ anti-union labour climate?

The issue that I have with WestJet after working there very briefly, as they wanted me to work split shifts 4 days a week with 5 hours off in the middle of the day and commute 30 mins 4 times a day to do it. It was also considered 'part-time' so benefits were limited BUT! I was eligible to participate in the Employee Share Purchase yada yada crap. Problem was on 9.50 an hour or whatever it was and after putting enough gas in my car to drive roughly 2 hours a day it was kinda hard finding any 'loose cash' to buy stock
Westjet from what I saw at the training session was 90% women(about half either still at university/college the other half married moms whos other half makes the real money they just are bored and want travel benefits) the other 9% are gay men and the poor 1% left are stupid guys like me that thought it would be cool.....not in the real world...in the real world you need $$$ and enough to have a life.
And to be honest for the happy go f'king lucky outlook they have at the airport they can be nasty at the office...geeeesh its like by in or get out. Its kinda weird.
Bad experience I guess....at least Clive makes good coin though....nothing like a little corporate espionage to boost earnings
oh one more thing....the jokes can be fun and some of the F/A's are stunning but at 6 am just chill and let a guy drink his coffee would ya?
Cant complain with the customer service though.....

WJ
Once we see further rises in interest rates and sustained higher fuel costs WJ will suffer. I don't think the economy will get better than this (as we see housing prices starting to top out). IMO, I think the consumer will have less disposable income and WJ will probably see their growth finally level out (if not decline).

I hope WJ sticks around............this coming from an AC guy! The only thing that would worry me is that Clive has done everything he said he would not do.
His secret was slow expansion and developing his own market. I just read that WJ is taking delivery of 7 new aircraft but have decided where to put them. Not a good sign really. I just hope Clive hasn't given in to his ego as all these guys seem to do.

Looks good on paper, but will it fly?
172pilot,
How do you figure that WJ will suffer any worse than AC/JG etc? With a cost structure as low as theirs, would they not be in the best position of all? Their margins would make them the MOST likely to maintain their position, would it not?
Not trying to be a thorn, just curious as to your thinking...
