Flight instructor looking to move up in the world

Post by DHC-1 Jockey »

Hello out there to all those looking for a job, same as myself. I am a Class IV instructor in S.W. Ontario and am looking to move on to bigger and better things. I have 550 hours, 80 multi and my multi-IFR. I am looking for some ideas and tips from people who are already with an established carrier (Bearskin, Perimeter, etc). How many hours did you have when you got an interview, what was the interview process itself, things like that. I've already read all the threads on 'this company is better than that company' and the whole discussion on training bonds, so i just want the hard facts on what got you hired in the first place. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

"You love a lot of things if you live around them. But there isn't any woman and there isn't any horse, not any before nor after, that is as lovely as a great airplane. And men who love them are faithful to them even though they leave them for others. Man has only one virginity to lose in fighters, and if it is a lovely airplane he loses it to, there is where his heart will forever be." - Ernest Hemingway

Trust me, there are women who are more lovely than airplanes. This is a sign that you may need to get a life.

First off at build that number from 550 to 1000! and the multi to 100!
Then companies will be more likely to talk to you, other than giving you the PFO or ramp work.

Secondly, if your 'ready' to move on at that stage, that shows that only after 300 (let's assume here) hours of teaching that your fed up with your students. You got into instructing for the wrong reasons if that's the case.

Thirdly, right place, right time, right connection

Get a job doing multi instructing, so that when
your TT rolls to 1000, you have 500 MPIC.

I'll trade you a ride in my airplane for a ride on your woman.

No trees were harmed in the transmission of this message. However, a rather large number of electrons were temporarily inconvenienced.

Not a fair deal.

After all said and done, you'd be able to ride your plane again.

While we are on the subject of comfortable rides....you have more room in some women than you do in a Cessna 150...
