Canadian North Morale
How is the company culture at Canadian North? What kind of morale do you have there? I'm informed on most of the technical/pay/schedule information. However, I was wondering how people like working there? Do you like the crews you fly with? Are you reasonable satisfied with the way interactions with management occur? Any thoughts about the near to middle future plans of the company? I'd appreciate any thoughts you may have on this. Please feel free to PM me if you would rather not discuss on the open forum.
Thanks,

Some people are like slinkies: Not much good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

I know a couple of guys there and morale is top notch. They all like to get up and got to work. What more could you ask for?
Re: Canadian North Morale
I've heard the same. I know a few friends there and they're all very happy and in it for the long haui. I've also heard they are having trouble with expansion due to 'lack' of qualified pilots. Keeping mind, they do some challenging flying, gravel and northern ops to name a few risks.
Re: Canadian North Morale
Yes it is a great place to work.
We are suffering from the same problems as everyone else. Not enough pilots, too much work, wishing we had better/newer airplanes to do the job. What I really hope is that these aren't the halcyon days of the company and long for the days when we had to work too much and fly the fire-breathing 200.
We work in an environment where it is not unusual to land on a gravel runway one day and then fly to Arizona the next. We have new and wonderful FMS systems with TAWS and MFD's being installed, yet still have to remember how to find the sun's true bearing and set it up in the astrocompass.
The company recently polled the pilots to discover our concerns and took immediate action on what they could resolve. We are in the midst of a vote to merge with ALPA and also to ask the company to change the way we are scheduled. That adds a bit of tension to the place.
I've been here from the beginning and growth and change are challenging. These two elements make people somewhat uncomfortable, but it is still a great place to work.

From a passenger prospective, you have a nice little airline. I have flown with you a couple of occasions, always got a hot meal, real cup for my coffee. In flight service was great as well as front line check-in folks. They arranged an earlier flight out of CYZF one day I was scheduled to depart later in the evening and I didn’t even ask(try that in CYYZ).
As for the old smoker B737-200, well it sure beats having propellers smashing in your ears on a squeaky/wobbly DHC-8

Re: Canadian North Morale
What's the pay scale and rotation schedule for the Dash 8 operation, vs. the 737 side of the fence
Gravity always wins
Re: Canadian North Morale
As far as I know, being only a line driver, everything is still under discussion/negotiation. The long legs being flown by the Dash should make the schedule a "most for least" proposition.
