PS. just as a side thought...what do you think will happen come 2015 when the CPA is up and AC has 90ish EMJ's?
Nothing! Yes they will have a bunch of EMBs at their disposal. Do you think they will be sitting idle on the ramp waiting to be scheduled on Jazz routes? AC can hardly crew their own airline let alone cover 800 flights a day for Jazz.
The gov't legislating the pilots back to work is a bigger threat than AC's EMBs. I guess 2015 will tell. To be honest with you, 2015 is way too far away to be worrying about AC's EMBs. A lot can happen between now and then. In fact, almost anything can happen bewteen now and then. Hell, WestJet could come into financial difficulty by then for some unseen circumstance. Bet I catch a big pile of sh1te over that one from the green fan boys!

No you got into aviation to work for free and not make a living. Right? The original post was to “WHY DO I WANT TO GO TO JAZZ ???” PAY should be a reason to reconsider. If pay wasn’t and issue this posting would have never existed and there wouldn’t be a mass exodus every week.

What, you think he didn't know the pay when he asked? it's not like he's been living under a rock, he's got 360 posts on Avcanada! d'ya think he might have been looking for other info, not your perpetual, one-tone whine?
This is just it ... Yeah i know what Jazz paids and i know the pay scale ... i'm a big believer that money isn't everything ... i think Life style is ... and having two children to raise makes my decision that much harder, with health plans and " actual" time off ...
I find it funny how most of you guys only look at the money when there is so many other things to consider. I know of 6 pilots i worked with at one time who moved on to Jazz and yes the first couple year they took a pay cut but now their all pretty happy with the money, schedule, and senority number...
When i asked " Why do I want to go to Jazz " i was hoping to hear from other Jazz Pilots when they left their other flying job to work for Jazz if they had any regrets in the first few weeks/months... I know it only gets better after that ...
I'm with you PA31...i'm all about lifestyle now...but then again i'm in my thirties with a steady girlfriend back home that i would love to see for more than 8 days a month. I look at "actual" time off AT HOME to be worth quite alot. Personally i can't wait to put the wing covers away in favor of a ground crew....put the piss-pack away in favor of de-ice trucks...put the flight plans away in favor of dispatch created plans...trade my briefing in for a cabin crew......but that's just me. Maybe i'm getting OLD.
PS: I forgot to mention Joe Moose's basement shithole Bed & Breakfast in favor of the HOLIDAY INN!

Actually Traf, I bet ya don't. I don't think anyone at WJ is going to say we won’t have any financial issues; there is just too many things that could go wrong. Hopefully it will still be full steam ahead.

Not that it makes a difference but; mainline will receive their 60th and final Embraer later this month (15-175's and 45-190's) not 90ish.... carry on.
I have been at Jazz for a year now. I can tell you honestly as much as we collectively gripe, it is leaps and bounds better then my previous job..
It is much about perspective i guess. The pay is not good, we know this. However, i believe it will change in 09 to more respectable levels. Flying an rj is also alot of fun, much more then a b1900 or saab 340. We have amazing travel benefits and discounts worldwide on hotels and vacation packages.. Our benefits are excellent, however they do come at a high price via deductions.
The training was superb in my eyes, totally organized and professional all the way through. Ask some people who jumped over to sunwing! Line indoc not finished after 6 months? On call for training? terrible situation there.
Also, the hiring people are so reasonable and understanding. You will also fly with some amazing people. I have found the pilots here to be levelheaded and very knowledgeable. They also have good attitudes, being the underdog for most of their careers and working for mostly functional regionals has a bit to do with it, in my humble opinion. Its funny how you can peg a Mainline guy walking in the terminal without even looking at his hat...Big generalization, but we seem more grounded here..
Anyway, it is not perfect here..In most eyes it is the number 3 pick, the consilation prize. However, I enjoy my job, and my family is happy, and most importantly i like going to work. I had initially got really bogged down in some of the negativity, it is very hard to avoid. You read it on here all the time, you hear it at work from some people. Misery loves company. If you want to enjoy your job, staying positive and upbeat is key.
Would i recommend this job to anyone? I certainly would. However, its about your outlook. If you have an open mind, and are positive going in you will be fine. Understand the inherint limitations here....We are not Air Canada, we wont fly big jets at the moment..We are not the best paid..However, for me the benefits outway the negatives.
It's not hard to finance lifestyle on 40k. year. If you have a wife or significant other who makes about the same money, then you're doing better than like 70% of Canadians. You have enough for two cars that are less than a decade old, and a small condo or townhouse (that isn't in Vancouver). You have enough to go out for dinner every now and then, or buy the kids a new pair of jeans. Let's not make this out to be some crazy case of massive poverty, because that's simply bullshit.
If you look at the stats the HIGHEST mean family income in Canada is in Ottawa, and it's just under 70K. So I really don't think I'm making stuff up here. The majority of Canadians are doing it on less, so I'm sure you'll be able to make it work also.
Its funny how you can peg a Mainline guy walking in the terminal without even looking at his hat
How do you do that?
Mainline pilots are the ones smiling and saying hello as you pass in the halls.
From my experience, they are the ones that look at thier feet and avoid eye contact as you pass. I know im not pretty to look at but at least say hello back when said to you. It's probably just a few bad apples spoiling the bunch.
It's definitely just a few bad apples. Every airline has them. (including Jazz...) I say hi to mainline guys all the time and 99.9% of them return the greeting. We're all doing the same job, it really doesn't matter what color is on the tail or how long the cabin is behind you...
Yes, it is much better making 65k a year living in Flin Flon
qwert, you have made it very clear that you are too good for Jazz. Why the obsession with the pay and people going there? I will say it again, you seem to have to come on the net to get justification for staying in the bush. You are too cool for Jazz. You are such a brain with math and finance that it is a shame you have wasted your talents flying around dogshit and chicken. You should be on the apprentice !
wtf is wrong with Flin Flon!? Beats the hell outta Pickle Lake, or Big Trout Lake! Seriously though, my point is, it's great to have days off, but if you can't afford to leave the house, it's not much of a lifestyle.
Oh please, you guys need to chill out a bit. I have done the shitty 1st 2 years thing and work at Jazz, my wife does not make great money and I still am able to own a house and 2 cars. If you are dumb enough to live in TO and not drive one hour to work, yes you will be broke. Otherwise, it is not as bad as these non jazz driving sky-is-falling wannabe's would have you believe.
You know what? I say screw them! If they don't want to go to Jazz then they can stay up north, fly a King Air and roll around naked on the bed counting all your Captain money, and eat moose meat until AC calls. Leave room for those of us who really WANT to go to Jazz.
