Engine Run ups at 3:30 AM at YVR
I love planes, but I wasn't pleased to hear that engine test and it went on for at least 10 minutes. I woke me up so who knows how long it was going on. And I live in South Vancouver. West 41st.

I doubt that this, of any place on the internet, is where someone can get some sympathy for that. Sorry.

It would probably help us identify it if you
told us how many stages of burner it had.

I dunno, I love planes as much as any pilot but getting woken up in the middle of the night for an engine runup "doesn't fly"Northern Skies wrote:I doubt that this, of any place on the internet, is where someone can get some sympathy for that. Sorry.

I can see where you're coming from..... but I'm a deep sleeper. If it's loud enough to wake me up, it's probably something worth getting up to watch!
Re: Engine Run ups at 3:30 AM at YVR
No, your right, this is bullsh*t. Engine runups should be banned until 7am.
That way after your engineer has been up till 3am fixing the engine he can pull his pud till 7am, then run the engine only to discover that the problem hasn't been fixed, and more work is required. At this point of course the flight is an hour late already. No pressure though.
Yeah, thats much better.
Then again maybe it was intentional... some sort of sick twisted plot where they sat around till 3.30am just waiting, waiting till the time was right... then out they run to the machine and crank 'er up, all the while laughing maniacally. Cause sitting inside a machine at full tilt is so fun, sometimes I do it just for sh*ts and giggles. But thats just me.
Wah, its noisy. Lifes hard all over chief.

I'm not trying to be a prick, but why would you move in near an airport if you didn't like the sound of a jet engine ripping through your house at the wee hours of the night. It's an airport! Common. Same goes for railroad tracks and near ship yards.
just my 2 cents
Nothing like the smell of jet A in the am

Come to think of it, I would enjoy that. Anyone got a DC-7 I can harass the neighbours with?tdawe wrote: then out they run to the machine and crank 'er up, all the while laughing maniacally. Sell your house, take the cash and run for mayor. Then, change all laws that don't mesh with your lifestyle.patter wrote:And I live in South Vancouver. West 41st.

Re: Engine Run ups at 3:30 AM at YVR
Well I think you have to have permission to do a runup at YVR anytime. And it was a turbo prop. There are noise restrictions at night. I live several miles away as the crow flies. I realizethe industry is quite inexperienced right now. Some maintenance guy did not know any better.
Yesterday, I watched a King Air start and blow his blast into the hangar on start up. He then added more power to turn 90 degrees. Should have started the plane with the 90 degree angle in the first place. I remember when the blast blew the 206 away at Vancouver. Same thing, inexperience.

Patter, if it really gets you upset why not get a RPG and blow the fu.ker all to little pieces..that will solve the problem.
I did a stroll through your posts and found this comment you made.
Maybe all airplanes should have the pilots sitting in tandem?

That is quite puzzling for me as I just can't quite see the problem because the right seat is generally placed behind the flight controls same as the left seat.Flight skills, are sorely lacking at the beginning. Partly because of flying on the right side of the aircraft.

I haven't blown my blast in a hanger in years.

i thought you just sit on the captains lap till its your turn? That is quite puzzling for me as I just can't quite see the problem because the right seat is generally placed behind the flight controls same as the left seat.

Re: Engine Run ups at 3:30 AM at YVR
You could sit on the captains lap but that still would not determine which seat the captain chose to sit in.
For instance there is no rule that says which seat you must sit in to fly say a Cessna 172.
You can sit either in the left or the right solo or with passengers.

OMG those airplane engines make noise when they run!? For shame!
Drinking outside the box.
Re: Engine Run ups at 3:30 AM at YVR
I love when people buy houses near an airport because costs are cheaper, then bitch becuase of the noise. It's an airport, what did you expect?

Three or four Harleys blasting past your bedroom are real silent.

I like airplane noise too, but not in the middle of the night. Soon there will be a curfew and nobody who works there will be happy.
YUL has a curfew too, but all those Antonovs go in and out all night with Bombardier parts - how they get in that late...???

Perhaps living next to a busy road all my life made it so I had to have noise when I sleep :/
I have to agree, if you don't want to hear airplanes, don't move next to an airport!!! Cheapies.

Re: Engine Run ups at 3:30 AM at YVR
I live right under the approach path to my local airport, about 2 nm from the threshold. One of the best things to do in the summer is to have a barbeque on the back deck and watch the planes flying in. The noise is the price of being a part of cililization, live with it.
Having a standard that pilots lose their licence after making a mistake despite doing no harm to aircraft or passengers means soon you needn't worry about a pilot surplus or pilots offering to fly for free. Where do you get your experience from?

Re: Engine Run ups at 3:30 AM at YVR
I herd it a while back too. Runs are only permitted in designated areas after 10pm.
Just phone YVR and they may invoke fines.
The midnight guys will ruin it for all engine runs at YVR.
Victoria has a inner harbor hot line for noisy aircraft. Maybe Vancouver is next.
At least you know where to point the tip of the prop...at the complainers..
I think he is upset that it isn't a Merlin or a R4360 humming...i know i am
