High-School only Jobs that Pay Better Than Flyin'

Post by Bushav8er »

Just for fun...lets make a list of jobs that pay better than 'pilot'...heck, some of us could use it as a 'fall-back' option.

High-school only because if you have college or university, you should be bright enough not to be a pilot - and if you are - what were you thinkin'?

Come on- whats the point? We all have choices, we dont have to be in aviation. I have another fulltime profession and I fly on the side. Not in the flying game for the money, in it because I like to give back to the Industry. Yes, there are a lot of bitter pilots out there, but what the heck, theres lots of other jobs out there too.

Lobster plant laborer pays well over double of any entry level job I've seen lately. I'm sick of looking at lobsters though.

shamrock104, although tongue in cheek, there is a point to this. The most fun I had flying was when I did it privately. If one can find a job that pays better, than perhaps it is also possible to do that and own an aircraft to get my flying 'fix'.

Most definitely- I did not like the Industry when I was in it fulltime, too much cost cutting, childish and clueless management with no concern for staff. It was difficult to leave but now that I can do it on the side I like it a lot better.
If I could afford my own aircraft which I hopefully can one day I will feel even better.

Here in Alberta, I don't think it's possible to get a job that pays less then my first two years of flying (which wasn't that long ago).

That being said, I have no regrets about that year. I've said it before, I didn't get into flying for money.

Speaking of being a Tim Hortons manager, I am good friends with the owner of the Timmy's here and he was telling me that his son just quit as manager at one of his other Timmy's. I suggested that if he paid him better he would have stayed. He told me $100,000.00 a year for a high school drop out wasn't bad wages  . The stupid little turd left to do drywalling instead  Dumb ass.

I quit trying to make it as a pilot because I didn't want to be poor and have a shitty lifestyle anymore. At this point, I'm on the waiting list to begin training for ATC. I have a University degree in meteorology on top of my flight training, but presently I work as a Survey Technician which requires no schooling whatsoever because I make nearly $70,000 a year and my employer covers all living expenses when I work out of town which if I so choose, I could all year long.

I don't know. I think I'd rather deal with sheetrock than customers and staff in the food service industry.

We all make our choices. For some, lifestyle, job satisfaction and happiness are more important than money.
