ditto... yyz to fra last summer and the service was fine.

i think that doc pretty much hit the nail on the head. i've flown westjet quite a lot too, and although the service is fine, i find that jabber annoying and wish that they could just be friendly instead of wacky. and incidentally, i have had grumpy, unpleasant f/a's there too. there are two sides to each coin and no outfit is perfect every day.

a.c. is just the airline we all love to hate... but i'm happy to see that the tides of popular opinion do seem to be changing.

and i second doc's question, a330... do YOU always greet your pax with a cheery smile??

Many business travellers like to get work done on thier flight, usually on a laptop.

It can be difficult to concentrate when everyone on board is trying to guess whether the Captain is a Pisces or a Capricorn, or silly songs are being sung.

But, WJ's target market was Greyhound Bus travellers originally, so that's what it takes to get them I suppose.

I've never flown on Westjet before, but are you saying they sing and tell jokes DURING the flight . . . or only during the portion on the ground???

Let me guess, crossing over Thunder Bay "Eight Hundred Fourty Nine bottles of beer on the wall, eight hundred fourty nine bottles of beer . . . take one down, pass it around, eight hundred fourty eight bottles of beer on the wall . . . "

I can see how that might get annoying. Did the flight crew cycle on and off the emergency floor lighting to give it the "Disco Hell" effect also? Did you make your feelings known?

Kinda reminds me of a flight I had on Gulf Air back in June. Some little violent flame kept on pushing the flight attendant call button every 30 seconds to 2 minutes for the first three hours of the flight. Because the call button was in the arm rest, it was hard to spot the perpetrator. After a while, I went back to the flight attendants and kindly offered to break the person's fingers when they found out who it was-- they smiled and said that they would very much like that, but took the submissive way out and did nothing further. First time I really found a need to use ear plugs on a jet.

hey A330!

I know a super sweety nice 29 years old Purser at Air Canada.
I wish that every F/A could be like her in this company.
After every day/night she do at work I'm pretty sure couple of hundred's pax get off each plane with a totally new opinion about Air Canada.

And guess what, some of her close F/A's friends are like her!
So don't worry, the "move" is comming up!

Anyway, if you're travelling on C1 or whatever passes, you're not allowed to complain

What I enjoy here is that when Air Canada relaunched themselves the majority of the posters here blasted them for spending the money. Now one of the main reasons given for somebody not enjoying their flight on AC was the lack of PTVs in an outdated 767. Poor Air Canada. It seems that as far as most people on here are concerned they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Personally I believe that the only area that Air Canada has been weak in was the lack of entertainment options and this new investment they are making in new interiors, and audio/video on demand will be well worth their while. I can't wait for my next flight.

cheers,
gonnabe

i think that you just hit the nail on the head.

i just saw yet another "air canada is the devil" segment on the news last night. a few years back, air canada left a handicapped lady on a flight until the groomers showed up and then helped her off. this is a colossal boo-boo, i do not argue that. at any rate, the segment was about how a.c. has recently looked into training from a paraplegic assocation for handling handicapped folks, and opted not to go for it citing expense as their reason. so everyone's up in arms, and they had a sound bite of the forementioned women comdemning air canada for being the insensitive and uncaring behemoth corporation that we in canada all know it to be.

so my girlfriend got all wound up and denounced the boys in red (colgate green? :D) and we got into a big argument about it.

i seem to have been the only one in the room who caught the briefly snuck-in statement that a.c. does, indeed, incorporate such training... and it is in fact handling by someone on-staff who is paraplegic him or herself.

media spin... gotta love it...

You have a complaint and I am sure it is somewhat valid. YVR LHR is a long flight and all legacy carriers will have crew rest times on that route. Had you been on an A330/340 they would have taken their rest in the cargo hold hilton, as you would know, I assume from your handle. Had it been one of AC's 767's they would have been resting in the aft galley bunks.

A few facts that may clarify but unfortunately won't make your trip any better. It sounds like you were on a " power by the hour" 767. Not an AC machine but a rental that helped with the emergence from CCAA. The other fact that I wish AC would address. They insist on carrying the bare minimum compliment of Cabin Staff. I am sure if TC said one F/A per 100 pax, AC would only have 2 on that flight. Hopefully, that will change.

Jeep,

Your points are valid and likely true.......I just expected more for a long flight to LHR. To others comparing WJ and Jetsgo......please. A long international flight versus a short trip on a low cost airline. Not worth mentioning. I would just like to see more of the younger generation with a more positive work ethic, like the 29 year old purser mentioned. Most of the old guard just complain and stand behind their union mentality. The sooner most of them retire, the better. Just as an example, on the same flight the pax's were trying to find seats in the back and looking for overhead space for luggage. The two FA's were chatting in the back gallery not caring in the least about helping. It just struck me as uncaring and they displayed this until the end of the flight, just doing the bare minimum with no genuine interest. Maybe a bad day, but it happens way too often from what I can see.

Hung in the Sun,

How many 340-500's are they getting and how many RJ's and Embrarer's are they getting? Vast majority of expansion with small equipment.

You are absolutely right. I would love to see the old ones retire too. On the bus from the parking lot I watch and they can't even lift their bags up the steps without moaning and groaning. It does not leave me with a good feeling about having one pull me out of a wreck.

Having said that, I see the younger ones coming online. The majority are hired for the language they speak, not their ability. I agree we should be bilingual but we don't need every frickin language under the sun! They have this attitude of you can't fire me, I speak Manadarin, or Hebrew or punjabi and am therefore too valuable.

A nice waitress / part time fitness trainer from Quebec city would be perfect!

45 EMB's coming but will be replacing A320's No official number of 340 500s' and I believe all the RJ's new and old are going to Jazz.

Speaking of Air Canada, how is it working on the ramp? I might take a part-time position at YYZ (if they offer it to me) Any tips would be appreciated. A330 continue please.
