Very Cool!

I have seen a CASCAR race at City Center... should be a great race... much like Cleveland!

I still think the roads surrounding the airport are better though... nice flowing turns on the Yellowhead to the north and down the road on the west side.

They should use the Whitemud - just like the Oilers do.

Macdonald said Edmonton was picked over Calgary for the race because organizers had experience, the airport site and the proximity to downtown.
Are they planning to use YXD for the race itself???
if so, i thought that the airport authority was attempting to shut that airport down to make way for more high rises. That airport is about to bring them:
$22 million for local businesses.

Question?

Post by Adanac »

Last time I checked that the main reason that the AA was trying to shutdown YXD was noise pollution. It might just be me.. but when I went to the Molson indy in T.O. the noise was far and above what you would get at the city center airport on a busy day. MUCH MORE.

So again I have to shake my head in dispare at the people who are incharge of events happening at that airport. I wonder if they even have the ability to remember what day of the week it is...!

ERAA has to cover the costs of the Leduc Taj somehow.

Funny thing, last time I was in YXD, NOTAMs said no arrivals on 30 and no departures on 12 indefinitely. (No end date given) I imagine this is for noise. I wonder how racing will go over?

From the rumors I've heard, the noise issue is just an excuse. They are apparently trying to shut YXD down to increase revenues coming from YEG. Then they will be able to Demolish XD and build some new towers. I think I heard somewhere the plan was for 2010. One of the latest moves is that any traffic coming from the south has to be 9 pax or less. Service from the north is still unrestricted. (could be wrong though)

The big loosers are the buisness people who travel by air to do their buisiness in Downtown Edmonton. It used to be more cost effective for them to fly into the city centre. Before long it will be cheaper just to drive.
