Average hour
Just wondering what kind of time you had and the aircraft you were on before you get the call for an interview. I know this has been touched on before but just curious if the time is needed has changed.

Re: Average hour
While I don't understand the whole process, this info I know is true as told to us by the V.P. of flight ops in our Pilot Indoc Class.
The online app scores you on 7 points. Not sure what they all are, but I'm sure having post secondary education and jet experience, etc... give you exta points. I'm sure the questions that you answer on the app are a good indicator of what they are looking for.
To have AC actively look at your application, you must have at least 2000 hours (yes, this is the magical number!). From there, a captain in the hiring department will analyze your application to see if you are the type of applicant that they want. 2000 hours may be enough if they are the quality of hours they are looking for, or they may not be. What do they want? Basically a pilot who is capable of being a captain on the Embraer in a year to a year and half, because that is how quickly new hires are able to bid to a left seat.
From there if they are interested in interviewing you, they call you for a phone interview. Then if they still like you, than a panel interview at one of the pilot bases. This interview includes a pysch test and cognitive function test. You must pass all 3 tests.
Then, you wait for 8 to 12 weeks for a "competive candidate letter" which basically means that you've passed the interview process. Then a month later you get called in for your medical. If you pass that, then they call your references and do a final file review. Once there is a position available they will offer you a course date.
Clear as mud?
Basically, the minimum hour to be considered is 2000. But, it's never just about the hours. If you want a hint of what else they are looking for, look at the questions they ask you on the application. That is how they score you. If you can do anything to improve on any of those questions, or make you capable of checking another box and adding to your score than do it.
In my class the guys have anywhere from 3500 to 9000 hours. They come from the varied experience with no jet, to corporate jets, regionals, or jazz.
From my understanding (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) most of the hiring for expansion has been filled. Now they are hiring to keep up with the retirements. As I understand it about 100 to 150 per year for the next 5 to 7 years. Things are going to be slower than the past couple of years where they hired 700 pilots. But they are still looking good.
Hopefully that answered your questions. Good luck!
